Celarbrace drags QPR’s team, fans and striker back from the brink – Report on 12:00 - Nov 29 by Rangersw12

2000/01 was truly the worst team I've ever seen at Rangers

Would also add 97/98 especially from January onwards . Still think one of the lowest days was Stockport away in January 98 when Dowie , Rowlands and Breaker all made their debuts in a shocking 2-0 defeat in front of about 700 Rangers on a cold open terrace . Same day Sinclair made his debut for West Ham where he scored 2 .

Yeh that team for me. Ready at centre back and Dowie as your main centre forward.

Thanks Clive. I’m away for a few days holiday in the sun so didn’t see the match. Your report articulately summed up the reactions I was following live on the forum match thread and included a healthy dose of realism.

So pleased for you and all the dedicated fans who follow the R’s all over the country. It’s results like these that must make it bearable. Hope we are not all brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday!

Just realised I was out of the country for the Luton win too. Maybe I need to stay away!

Cardiff may have been woeful but clearly they can play better and they have won 4 home games. Unless we can start winning at home I still fear the worst. The Canaries next to visit whom we have not beaten in the last 9 meetings. Even Cardiff beat them recently...

And too think pre season 97 there was hopes of 100 goals and 100 points with a front 3 of Sheron , Spencer and Gallen

We ended that season with Vinny Jones and Neil Ruddock in our side . A truly dreadful time to be a Rangers fan !

Again probably not the time, but he'd been fcking awful again before the first goal.

Half an hour into the match I announced to my son: "I have now made up my mind. Celar is just plain crap." I'd given him plenty of time but he was having a shocker.

For my next act I will announce that Varane is never going to score from outside the box, around 12.50 on Saturday.

Suffering since 1978.

Yes, agree I was there - persuaded my wife to go too. A truly diabolical performance.
In those days I was fond of telling my wife and anyone who would listen that we were only parked in the second flight momentarily and the inevitable rise to Premiership glory and probable European football was just around the corner. Tony Scully I believed would be a crucial ingredient in this process.

This game was a real turning point in terms of expectations and 25 years later it hasn't shifted much.

As the half time whistle blew, a fellow R standing nearby and obviously as disgusted as we all were by our limp and pathetic performance, shouted out to our lot trooping off the pitch, 'That was f***ing rubbish Rangers!', to which his partner/wife immediately turned to him to admonish his bad language with a 'Nigel!' and a how dare you stare. Was the best part of the day.

And my car broke down on the way home. Bloody Montego.

Yes 3-0 defeat we were already down. Amazingly , think about 10,000 turned up. Only a couple of thousand remained for the 'lap of honour' and Holloway walked separately from the team. A bloke ran on the pitch to try to get at the players. As I was coming out of the Loft I saw him being ejected by stewards - he was pleading with them, ' I only wanted to let them know how I feel'.

The current team/squad is much better. Crouch was excellent that season but still just a kid and once Langers and Carlisle were ruled out through injury it was a spineless, awful team. Although I remember a rare and scrappy evening victory at Gillingham. One of Gerry's last games in charge I think? February 2001?

I’m glad you tempered the adrenaline surge of a win by describing this as a brief respite. That first half was SO appallingly low in quality, added to all the other atrocious performances from us this year that I actually couldn’t think of a worse team I’d seen in my near 50 years of supporting QPR.

Now that a couple of days have passed and I won’t be described as a party pooper I can pose the question - is this indeed the worst QPR team of the last 50 years?

In hindsight, I think the near unrelenting misery of supporting this team may have got to me. As shiťe as I think this team is, there may well have been more shiťťer QPR teams in the past.

That 2001 team was pretty rank. I think it is why the 2003/4 season was so great. It really felt we had got our team back. Holloway was god. He’s a strange bloke in some ways but at the time he was just what we needed.

Marti Cifuentes just might be the guy for us. I hope he gets the chance.

Like everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Clive's report and my mood has brightened over the past couple of days.

Late on Wednesday night I received a WhatsApp on a friend's group pointing out that Liverpool had won 17 of their last 19 matches. I replied saying that from the beginning of September until now, QPR had played 13 matches and didn't win any. Also, their centre forward had made 19 appearances and hadn't scored. But all that had changed now, and what's seldom is wonderful.

By the way, what does a keeper have to do to earn a 9 from Clive? I thought he was really outstanding.

A real life nightmare, that team. Darlington and Thomson could at least do their jobs some of the time and Bignot turned out to be useful, but in no way was that a Championship standard team.

Be nice to see Celar go on a Wardleyesque hot streak of goals now that he’s opened his account, even if it was only for the one season.

I don't think Gerry was in charge then as didn't we lose 5-0 at Wimbledon on the Saturday and the Gillingham game was the Wednesday night after !

Truly awful season . Saw us lose 5-2 at Sheffield Wednesday, 5-0 at Preston and 5-0 at Wimbledon. Home 1-4 to Colchester and 0-6 to Arsenal

We only won 7 all season !

And as we've said a few times recently, quite a few comparisons to this season - went in quite optimistic after a good previous year, strikers injured early, lack of goals, too many draws.

And just think we may well be in a lower division to Stockport next season. A terrifying thought. I genuinely thought they were still in the National League until I looked at the League 1 table a month ago.

This entire conversation reminds me of the episode of Fawlty Towers where someone says it's the worst hotel in the country and the Major says "No!!! I won't hear that said! (pause) There's a place in Eastbourne..."

I’m old enough to remember one of the early LFW ITK accounts, ‘Dazzer’, hanging his hat on the “sad news” that Mark Perry was dead.

Clive, your exquistely written post match report is almost as exquisite as the 2 goals from Celar!

I watched on a stream and your ability to revoke those memories of that particular game are exceptional. And even for those that weren't there or watched on a stream, you'll have made them all feel like they were actually there.

Kudos. Don't know how you do it, but, please, keep on doing it. It's a lifeline to so many...

I've got the Power.
