Poor from Dembélé to lose the ball in a dangerous area, and very poor from Varane to ball-watch and let Hamer run past him into space. |
My first proper viewing of some of these players.
Strictly on performance so far, Varane extremely poor. To not have the instinct to track Hamer in that situation is quite concerning, in his position. Gave the ball away cheaply twice before that too.
And his latest contribution to goal 2....not great either. Dearie me. Weak challenge, not able to prevent cross, way too easy for O Hare (who is a very good player at this level as we know). Obviously too early to form a comprehensive judgment but early signs in this game specifically not great. If we don't get that part of the pitch right any talent further up will be wasted. Hopefully he's a quick and willing learner and stronger attributes will come to the fore.
Dembele looks a footballer and will be a good signing. But yes also gave the ball away cheaply in bad area for the first goal. | | | |

My condolences 🙏
My dad, God rest his soul, took me to a football match, as a birthday treat, when I was very young. It was a Spurs game, being as he was a lifelong Spurs fan and I didn't have any allegiances back in the day (sorry 🙄). I expect he wanted me to follow in his footsteps but he didn't mind when I eventually became a QPR fan and he always showed interest in our performances and results.
Before that Spurs game, resplendent in his sheepskin jacket, he took me to a cafe where, oaf that I am, I accidentally doused said jacket in tomato ketchup when using one of those plastic, tomato shaped ketchup dispensers. I was mortified
