Israel has been doing awful things in Gaza for a very long time with their settlements and policies that have driven Palestinians to despair. If any other country had been doing similar elsewhere in the world they would have been roundly condemned for their actions in the strongest possible terms. For historical reasons Israel has been given a free pass to do what it likes with the west, particularly the US, backing it.
If you drive people to despair there will be some among them who will turn and wreak as much terrible havoc as they possibly can. Hamas is a despicable organisation that has carried out unspeakable atrocities and Israel has responded in kind.
It might have helped if the west had spent less time backing Israel whatever it did and more time treating them like any other nation and actively seeking a peaceful solution in the region. | | | |
