Bednarek wins his red card appeal... 16:11 - Feb 4 with 1862 views1885_SFC

some good news - at last. Another f@ck up by Dean then...

On Bednarek, the FA said: “Jan Bednarek will be available for Southampton FC’s next fixture after an Independent Regulatory Commission upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal and removed his suspension.

“The defender was sent off for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity during a Premier League fixture against Manchester United FC on Tuesday [02/02/21].”

So they've had to admit that both the ref at the time, and the VAR review got it wrong. Incredible.

Surely this lends a lot of weight to our request for them not to officiate for us again? With that request out there the FA must have really wanted to back their refs which makes the decision and ref performance in general an even more egregious example of incompetence, or worse, bias.

Everyone knows there was little or no contact when Dean pointed to the spot. The VAR ref was just as incompetent with his decision & so passed it back to the utterly useless and even more incompetent Dean... who looked at a frozen screen... still couldn't decide... and then remembered all those years ago, a Saints-supporting ex girlfriend of his mocking his tiny, pathetic penis... and so gave the pen & the red card.

The logic of the decision is that is wasn't a pen either.

We were 6-0 at that point in the 87th minute.

I think we can justifiably say that we didn't fairly lose that game 9-0.

That's not what the record books will say though.

Yes, Dean is clearly not fit to referee Southampton games fairly. I don't understand how they can allow him to continue refereeing. It's such a shame they scrapped the compulsory retirement age for referees or we would have been rid of him years ago.

I am astonished we won that!! Rightly so we did but astonishing

They should throw the fkn book at Dean then for sheer incompetence

Yes, we already knew what he was going to do to us. He is clearly not a competent, impartial referee for Southampton games. This is what I wrote BEFORE the game:

We're up against stiff oppostion tonight: Mike Dean and Lee Mason will be looking to complete the double over us, and Mike Dean has already awarded Manchester United a record-breaking EIGHTEEN penalties so he'll want to add to that total.

If we want to win 1-0, we'll need to score 3 perfectly good goals, McCarthy will have to save a penalty awarded after the ball brushes against one of our player's legs outside the penalty area and we'll have to defend with only 10 men after Ward-Prowse is given a red card for smiling at the ref.

Without looking, but is he over 47?

Well, it's good news as he can now play this weekend. I thought Ramsey did OK and will be better and more confident for the baptism of fire. Still very difficult to pick a decent team from the players available though.

As Dorsetian has said below, that had a significant bearing on the result (as obviously was the disallowed goal), and have just heard Ralph say much the same and still sounding thoroughly pi55ed off

Good to see that common sense has prevailed. It doesn’t change anything from the other night other than prove all those who thought the officials got it badly wrong right, but at least Jan can play on Saturday now.

Posted this on another thread but I'll leave it here too.

So was the red card rescinded completely or was it downgraded to yellow? Because if a penalty was the correct decision (i.e. JB committed a foul), he either attempted to play the ball or he didn't. If it was the first of these, he should be getting a yellow, if the second of these he gets a red. if the FA has deleted the card completely, it therefore implies there was no foul and the penalty was a wrong decision - which raises the question....Will Martial's dive be reviewed by the FA, given that no action was taken by the referee at the time and he presumably didn't record it in his match report?

It couldn't be a yellow. He clearly made no attempt to play the ball.

Your reasoning is correct. If it as a pen, it had to be red. It's not red, therefore it couldn't have been a pen.

Which means it must have been a dive.

But this assumes that there's logic involved.

Can Martial then be given a red card for blatant cheating even though you’re already 6-0 up against 10 men? Should carry a 10 March ban IMO

One of the problems is that the new rules they seem to make up every week have become too finickety. They don't leave much room for common sense to prevail. A clear and obvious handball no longer being handball because it might have also brushed the player's thigh being one example.

I guess though that in the case of Mike Dean, we couldn't win, as he would use any leeway in the rules to his advantage the same as he does the minutiae of the new rules. When it's clear that a referee like Mike Dean is not refereeing fairly and impartially, he should not be allowed to continue.

I guess that is the disadvantage of letting a referee continue too long. He develops his favourites, who he wants to please, and other teams he dislikes, who he feels have slighted him in some way, and who he consequently seeks to punish. When a referee starts, he knows he is under scrutiny and tries his hardest to be fair and impartial. Dean no longer feels he needs to do that.
