This idea that Smith is a "proper defensive midfielder" but Grimes isn't is bizarre. Not sure where it comes from other than wishful thinking.

Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 15:25 - Aug 25 by KGriz16 | Grimes is one of, if not, the best footballer at the club. |
And in this league. Totally underrated by some of our fans because he doesnt shout loud enough. When Gallagher dropped deeper, Grimes had more licence to orchestrate; whereas Fulton's job was to drop in ahead of Grimes to pick up phase2 from longer balls into Ayew. Will be interesting how the CM pans out with new personnel. Can see Cooper (stubbornly) revert to his tried and tested 4 at the back.

Perhaps it comes from - he’s never played that role before?? Even transfermrkt says he predominantly plays further forward.

Exactly. A good player who specializes in orchestrating things further forward.

He's far more than that. Check out his stats for tackles etc. He can play deep, central, further forward. Highly respected for his natural ability, but also recognised for his lack of leadership. The manager will be looking at the entire dynamic across the middle and Grimes will be at the heart of that group.

I think he’d be more than capable of playing the left wing back role, he fed the likes of Celina and Montero very well in the Potter season.

Fulton is hopeless in that position, his positioning caused us loads of problems in the second leg of the playoff

Tongue in cheek about Grimes. I maintain he’s a very good player best suited in a more creative role. It’s a big positive we have some real quality coming in now in the middle of the park rather than have to fall back on George Byers for example who has shown very little in his time with us.

Oh, apologies! I disagree, respectfully of course. I believe Grimes possess the talent to be creative from a deeper role, but also the nous and industry to play at CDM. Most fans want a big b*stard in the role, I see both sides. But, I like Grimes where he is.

If he wasn’t so painfully only left footed I’d agree. Him and Bidwell have seldom used their right feet since they’ve been here. This is a problem oppo players suss out quickly and try to force him onto his right (redundant) foot . Obviously being just in front of the back line can cause serious problems if he’s disposed so close to goal. Doesn’t matter much when he’s crossed the halfway line looking for a killer pass.

I hate to quote a Sun journalist, but Alan Nixon has said that we have improved our bid and it's happening. Remarkable. Dead happy with our squad, need one center back and I think we look good.

Yes, all we need is a decent Game Manager and we are all set. Cooper may or may not be a decent coach, but good game manager he is not.

Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 15:26 - Aug 26 with 1996 views | Kerouac | The squad's too heavy on wingers. We need to release or Loan out the following; - Nathan Dyer - Jordan Garrick (Loan) - Barrie McKay - Joel Asoro (possibly Loan) & maybe - Kristoffer Peterson I'd also release or loan out... - Declan John and that should give us the room in the budget for - 1 x experienced centre-back on a free - 1 x exciting young Striker on loan. ...and if we were being greedy - 1 x Championship standard left back on a free.

Ins & Outs + Squad Updates and Transfer links on 16:20 - Aug 26 with 1937 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Interesting note on Lancashire live on the pursuit of Derrick Williams. "That could open the door for interested MLS parties, with LA Galaxy and DC United monitoring Williams". Obviously "synergies" in the scouting set up. Im all for it. The big money gains are at Swansea not DC.
