Anybody watch 'The Virtues' , all very plausible unfortunately, the luvvies rave about Shaun Meadows and ive seen this show called a masterpiece, to me its very much the same style as 'This is England' film and the different series spin offs of this over the years.

I haven't seen episode 1 but saw the following 3.
A bit long winded but watchable.
Stephen Graham is the new James Nesbitt, he could do with a break.

Episode 1 was ok, episodes 2 & 3 were long winded, episode 4 was tense, the whole thing was all very arty and retro, I know there was flashbacks to an earlier time, the show was very earthy and hard hitting.

So your main critisms are that it is earthy and hard hitting. And the main actor has been in a couple of series. The series was superb as is most of Meadows output, save for a terrible faux documentary .

It could have all been done in one episode.
Graham needs to be careful in the roles he is picking on "traditional TV" it's all very "samey" from him.

Yes, I think so too, the show is excellent and no doubt will win awards [deservedly so], Graham was really good in the first episode but he has a lot of practice at that type of role.

I liked the Irish flow of conversation, spot on that was. Obviously a terrible subject but the scene in the last episode where Graham meets his sick abuser was very powerful.

Yes, the young woman confronting her mother at the end was even more powerful imo.

Apparently they changed that ending with the young actress and the mother at the end after some first up private showings, goodness knows what they originally had for that scene.

I was expecting the tea cup smashed onto her head.

The guy who hung himself was an incredible actor.

I enjoyed, some brilliant acting. However, felt a bit disappointed at the end, felt like the story could have been a bit better. Felt like a twist was coming but it never did.
