Guidolin on 17:22 - Aug 13 by Tummer_from_Texas | Taking Barrow off before WR was baffling, but I can only surmise that FG was thinking Routs had more left in the tank. Modou was doing a hell of a lot of sprinting, after all, and took a few cheap shots from Burnley. |
As fans, we tend to compare individual players against each other. Managers look at combinations of players and how they impact the team as a whole. It didn't work today (we won but it was fortunate) but Gylfi and Routledge is a combination he likes. It's no reflection on Barrow, who was by far the better winger while he was in the pitch.

Guidolin on 16:58 - Aug 13 by BLAZE | I didn't think they were bizarre TBH. Attacking substitution with Gylfi replacing Britton, and Mo wasn't in the second half, whilst Montero was very lively when he replaced him |
Just an experienced manager knowing what to do and when to do it. Darran doesn't understand because he hero Garry never seemed to do it.

I'm not like you Blaine I couldn't give a f*ck about Monk he's nothing to do with us. You carry on though because Guidolin has my 100% support the same as every player/manager whist they're employed by us,I'd thought I'd make it perfectly clear that when they leave they can all go f*ck em selves.

I didnt get a very good link today, but it seemed to me that Barrow was switched to the left in the second half to 'soften' up their right back in readiness for Monterro. If that's the case it was a class move and Barrows job was done.

I think it was a combination of trying to get the right back a booking as he couldn't deal with Barrow (or Monteros) pace and Routledge being ineffective on the left. Barrow had a decent game but it was the right substitution
Guidolin on 19:20 - Aug 13 with 1298 views | Clinton | Don't think Mo really has 90 minutes in him. If he plays 90 too often he will fade mid season.. Play him in bursts for me. Great to start with a win.

Spot on ms Routledge definitely played better on the right with naughton and montero made the difference for me as his crosses were/are perfect for llorente,he should've scored 1 with a header and we scored off another Having 4 wingers makes for some interesting combinations and that can only be good for the team

Guidolin on 10:32 - Aug 14 with 821 views | northwesternjack | Have to disagree, I think Fer had a solid performance Britton is a bit of a stopgap which is good when you're trying to hold on but he opted to push for a goal and we got it through Fer. Routledge looked absolutely terrible all game so I agree, at the time I was thinking the same but Barrow was being fouled constantly and we were getting nothing for it.

Guido may feel that Mo is such a massive asset that he needs a bit of protection from himself. As you say he was getting kicked around and needs saving for the next game. What a luxury to be able to replace Mo with Montero though and still have Dyer as a backup.

He is going to get that kind of treatment whenever he plays, particularly against teams like Burnley and Hull. If a winger clearly has the beating of a full back for pace, teams usually try to kick him out of the game, or bring the centre back tighter like has often happened against Montero.

I know, Dyer suffered that for years. So if the Ref doesn't protect the player the Manager has to, by sharing out the grief, especially if the player is starting to tire and will therefore get caught more often. We are in the good position we can do so like for like.
