Attendances (In General) 20:29 - Apr 15 with 2230 views | mikehunt | Started a new thread as I didnt want this getting lost in the specific threads about our attendances. So, looking at last night's gates, a lot of them were down. The one that caught my eye was Preston's : 9,400. That is at least three thousand down on normal. Explain that one! Then have a go at our new lass.

It cost them the thick end of a 100 quid to go to the game. Going to football matches is expensive, that's the bottom line. [Post edited 15 Apr 2015 20:34]

From who? People are quite rightly discussing the situation in general terms and pointing out that Frances has a big job on her hands if part of her remit is to improve attendances, which I'm sure she has already realised.

She has no 'football experience', and comes from the public sector. Now this may prove an asset, in that it may be a fresh approach. But it worries me that she may not know how the average or potential fan ticks. Time may prove the above bunkum. But as a fan that slightly concerns me, and if I was a director I'd be looking for some kind of football connection. I hope she knocks the above into a cocked hat.

It will be good to hear whether a meeting could be sorted in the future with the new marketing manager and any interested supporters. It was something that the Trust were asked to arrange once she'd been in the job a few weeks. Will follow it up at the next home game along with the voucher 11 thing, should it not be reported on the Trust site in the meantime.

Attendances (In General) on 21:11 - Apr 15 with 2053 views | 49thseason | We need to get the stadium purchase done and dusted asap. The poor woman has no chance if we just keep plodding on hoping a few hundred more will suddenly turn up. The on-field offer is great but the rest of the club is moribund. It really is time for some huge decisions about the off-field side of the club. carrying on as we are is not an option, its a long, slow death sentence.

Valid points but you would hope the powers that be within the club will have taken that into consideration and she will be given plenty of support......you would hope!!

I know what you mean TTNY What concerns me isn't whether Frances is up to the job, as much as what exactly the job is meant to achieve. I could be wrong, but it seemed to me that IJ's remit was just to fill the boxes and sell advertising space. Any commercially minded person could do both those things without breaking sweat. It's the mindset of the board. Closed. Dismissive. Condescending. All the qualities you need to attract new business. Can she break those shackles? Does she even realise that's what she'll need to do? [Post edited 15 Apr 2015 21:34]

Cost is the key driver/blocker to attendances. A good benchmark for our home attendances will be to see how many take up the buckets/Southend game next Tuesday vs our pay for it game at home to Leyton Orient For the floating customer there is a FREE entry and both sides in the top seven, pushing for promotion, everything to play for., for both sides. 5,500 would be my guess, not capacity meaning you can't even give it away. Gillingham away on Saturday also has its problems; for me an exile so closer to Gills than Dale; travel plus entry for 2 is £75 minimum. Game has nothing on it, we are safe, they are too so nothing spectacular to draw me there. There are many Gills fans that will swerve it too I believe. 9,585 there the last time I went for the playoff game; there won't be half there this Saturday. As a wonder has anyone here actually done every game (including cup games) so far and if so, how much has it set you back? £2,000?

Attendances (In General) on 07:29 - Apr 16 with 1679 views | isitme | This issue is not just the preserve of football either. Sale Sharks supporters are constantly complaining about poor attendances and how lack of revenue prevents them from spending up to the salary cap when other teams either have financial backers who can cover for large losses or generate a lot more revenue due to larger crowds and/or more 'non sporting' related income. They also lose some of their better, younger players to clubs offering higher wages. Sound a bit familiar? For a lot of people, especially if families want to attend, watching live sport can be expensive. For two adults and two children to watch a Dale game it costs £46 to sit in the Pearl Street. I suspect that we are one of the cheaper clubs across all four divisions as well.

The shackles indeed need to be broken and a free reign given. New broom to sweep away all the past negativity and a brand new marketing approach. I think this is a brand new job not just a replacement for IJ. fill the boxs - increase sponsorship yes but the promotion and marketing of the club to increase home attendance must be first second and third on the job description for me. Its a tough ask!! but Frances looks to be up to the challenge. I think a non footballing background could easily be her biggest strength - detached somewhat from the emotion of following Dale. having 2500 bosses cant be easy either as any move is sure to be micro analysed here. As i put on another thread if she has the drive the balls and the ambition combined with total board backing and given the necessary time!! Frances i am sure will be a huge success.

Sale Sharks shot themselves in the foot moving to The A J Bell stadium where it takes ages to get out of the car park. This was a move which paid no attention to the interests of the fans, and the fans voted with their feet.

We had the lowest attendance of any game on Tuesday even though there was a lot at stake. I love supporting Rochdale and just wish the people of Rochdale supported their local team instead of going into Manchester.

Its going to take a long time to build the fanbase. Thats why Hilly had mentioned the importance of establishing ourselves as a league one club for 6-7 seasons - if we can gradually get more supporters coming and liking what they see then it could snowball. Playing more Northern based teams will be a huge boost and should create more interest. Also a few good cup runs as we have seen these past 2 seasons will draw 7-8000 crowds. The problem then of course is like this season - doing too well and threatening promotion . It seems there's a feeling at the club that we would be in danger of running before we've learned to walk.
