Newcastle away (Place to Stay and Travel advice) 09:05 - Sep 7 with 4735 viewsqprmeath

Anyone know a decent reasonable city centre place to stay? And any advice on travel up from London on Saturday going back Sunday? Trains prices a bit mental as far as I can see.

I've stayed at the HolidayInn Express.

5 mins from St J P and 5 mins from short dresses wandering about the streets in minus 10 temps all through the night.

As long as you are checked-in you can park your car there but cant remember if they charge for this

captains fantastic

Usually stay in the Jesmond area and have found the following all inexpensive and clean.
New Northumbria,Osborne and Carlton.5 minutes from city.
Also Premier Inn Central is good but probably booked up as Toon at home.

this time i,m in Osborne

I stayed at the Premier for both the Newcastle and Sunderland games.Very reasonable prices too.
Eastcoast trains websites has some cheaper tickets, especially if you split the journey up a bit.

Im carrying out a one man boycott of Newcastle matches even though its my nearest match. Away support is 14 flights up stuck at the back 300 yards from the action complete waste of money. Sunderland so much better

Oh for the old days when you were in the corner at the Gallowgate end. The game where Jan Steyskal saved the last minute penalty still one of my favourite games ever

You do get a good view of the city from up there though and you can make a bit of noise up there.
Imagine the poor sods who have to sit up that high for 19 home games.

+1. Sh.te view, miles away from action. Bring your opera specs.

I've always used the city centre premier Inn.

Reasonable prices, staggering distance of the pubs/clubs and the ground.

Awful place to watch football though Imo

The Royal Station hotel is less than 1 minutes walk from the train station and is well priced.

ts about a 20 minute walk to the ground.

From memory the train costs about £70, if you leave Newcastle around 11 o'clock on the Sunday morning.

Going to stay at the newcastle airport premier inn for this game , the metro is about 200 yards from the hotel in the entrance to the airport , then an all day all zones ticket is around £5 . 20 minutes to city centre from here . All premier inn prices are steep in the city from what i can see , payed £29 per night for this but booked it in july .

Just to add here that The York Tap on the Railway station is a fantastic pub, particularly for real ale enthusiasts, with anything up to 12 guest ales from far and wide.

Great place to spend 30 minutes whilst waiting for a connection...

On Platform 3 near the Short stay car park.

My closest away game as I live in Glasgow. Takes just under 2 hours by train and at the moment is costing about £28.

Just a pity that Sunderland away is on a Wednesday night.

as you walk down the hill from the city centre , right hand side of the main road , decent bar bit quieter than the town centre bars , usually a pre night out or after night out haunt I suppose , decent crowd in there usually slightly older than the 16 year old vomit mob

Just booked train tickets, for the price of a first class return (£106) have decided to lord it for this game Nice short walk from the station to the ground and looking forward to this one. Shame we always seem to play them away in the depths of winter. Remember Hughesless first league game at St James', Sunday lunchtime kick off and it was ferhucking freezing and the last time round it just persisted down for most of the afternoon.

And the bar steward scored the only goal. Still the papers got it right in the end suggesting that despite the loss Rangers were the side that looked more likely to get promoted, and we duly romped the league that year.
