The cost of going to watch SCFC at Old Trafford on Saturday 08:48 - Aug 11 with 4511 views | Jackfath | I thought I would go to this match as I have never been to OT before. I looked into a ticket, cost of getting there and also thought I would stay over in a travel lodge or similar. Sadly the cost of doing this is extortionate and I am not going to pay it. Good luck to anyone who can afford this type of match. Are there any others whose money doesn't stretch to this sort of game?

Ticket is £46 Bus is £24 £70 quid all in to watch the Super Swans win at Old Trafford on the first game of the season. Chuck a tenner on Gylfi to score first and you will have a free day! |

The cost of going to watch SCFC at Old Trafford on Saturday on 09:06 - Aug 11 by Pegojack | Travel, accommodation, etc. are fringe items about which you have some choice. the ticket price isn't. £55 is too much, and football fans need to say so, loudly, and vote with their feet. It's the only way things will change. |
Fully agree. http://fsf.org.uk/campaigns/away-fans/score-campaign-twentys-plenty-for-away-tic The campaign has been going well over a year and we saw last season a few good deals for away fans between the mid and lower Prem clubs, but not the top 6. It's not as if they need the money but can always sell to they own fans if away teams do not sell out. Twenty quid an away ticket across the league would see many more people travel. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Anyone spending time in Manchester this weekend, I recommend the following pubs I visited in January. Marble Arch a brilliant pub/brewery. A bit out of town but worth the trek. Old traditional pub, fully tiled inside. Mrs C and I got on well with the locals. http://www.marblebeers.com/marble-arch/ Port Street Beer house - more of a bar then a traditional pub, truly stunning selection of beers. In the trendy Northern Quarter. http://www.portstreetbeerhouse.co.uk/ For culture try the Manchester Art Gallery. You can see the original 'Scapegoat'. (or escaped goat if you prefer) I suspect there will be a few of these by Saturday evening. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scapegoat_(painting)

Pubs are all over the place but the ones around Piccadilly are not the nicest. Any of the back street pubs in the city centre are worth checking out.

Agree with somebody else who said Arsenal is far better value for money. Anyone been to Stoke was thinking of making that a trip this season?

Whats it like, Stoke? Is it a good trip ? Last time I went to Stoke it was the Victoria Ground I believe.

The cost of going to watch SCFC at Old Trafford on Saturday on 15:57 - Aug 11 with 1124 views | Naughty71 | I've got 3 kids, and can only just about justify the cost of a season ticket to the other half, there is no way that she would allow me to spend another 75 quid on one game of football. That would be a day out for all of us. I already pay 450 quid a year for 19 home games, how can anybody who has a mortgage justify the amounts for away games amazes me. It's not that I am skint either (I have a very good wage for the Swansea area), but I just cannot imagine paying all that just to watch a game of football, especially as I can just as easily stream it, or watch it on Sky. I'm with Jackfath on this one. Football is extortionate. We should be following the German format, whereby they price their tickets for the FANS not massive profits. £10-£15 a game is reasonable, the clubs get enough money from Sky to do this, but they don't. It's sad. I would love to attend away games, but Jackfath is right, it's just too expensive.

The cost of going to watch SCFC at Old Trafford on Saturday on 16:45 - Aug 11 with 1095 views | JBT95 | There was a petition at having set away prices from the league that all clubs would need to abid by, which is a really good idea. £25 an adult every away game would be decent. £475 a season if you did all 19 (although myself do 4 league aways per season). I would really like to go to West Ham this season as I haven't been there yet and the Boleyn Ground/Upton Park only has two more seasons left before West Ham move. Yet the ticket prices are £43 a person! With no student/young person discount. Arsenal only charged £25.50 when I went there in December 2012! So for me and my old man if we go it's going to be £89 with the fee. The train and tube tickets will be cheaper by about £25! How West Ham can justify charging up to £60 for their fans when they could get relegated any season is beyond me, it makes Chelsea look cheap. One thing that gripes me, in the case of West Ham and Man United, they have £5 member discount on tickets, yet the away fans are expected to pay this extra £5! That is wrong! The cost of going to watch SCFC at Old Trafford on Saturday on 19:50 - Aug 11 with 1037 views | Glossolalia | I have been to Old Trafford twice, once to watch the Swans, and once to watch Man U against villa. If coaches cost circa £25, have you considered car hire? We have done it twice with a hire car and it's been really good fun. Car costs £30, and petrol about £60. If you take five in the car it's £18 each, £20 tops. Of course you get the freedom to do what you want. I don't drink so it suits me fine, but if you fancy a few bevies why not ask your passengers to pay for the car out of enormous gratitude for your sacrifice? They pay £23 quid so save compared with the coach, and you save considerably. I am going up for the Man U v Chelsea game. Last time we got a 13-plate Focus and it was great. I used Europcar. Do you buy in advance? Might be a bit of a pain but you can return from Manchester for £34 from Newport in advance, £11.10 'off-peak' Bristol-Newport return. If you are under 25 or over 60 you would qualify for a railcard that gives another 34% off, and also the same if you are travelling with kids. Alternatively, it is cheaper to spilt 'off-peak' and 'anytime' tickets rather than get a straight through ticket Bristol to Manchester. I know for sure spilting at Cheltenham and then Birmingham will save a lot of money. After this I am unsure as I have never done it to Manchester as I always go Newport-Manchester advanced. You don't have to get off the train either with splitting it. Anybody reading that travels by train regularly away, splitting off-peak/anytime tickets at Cardiff will always save you money from Swansea. There are also now 'two together railcards' that cost £30 for a year, giving 34% off both adults that use the card and the two photo holders must travel together, ideal if you always go away with the same person.
