Very impressive start against a team that might have troubled us ... but really didn't.
Must pick out Matt Targett for special mention. Another young star from the academy.
Stekelenberg very solid and great kicking. Victor was a rock. Maya has improved so much under Ron. Mane unplayable. Dusan's best penalty so far. Clasie was very quiet and will take time to fit in.

A great night for Saints. Hope we can finish the job next week and move on to the next challenge.

Saints did a professional job, showing lots of promise and keeping Vitesse at bay. The team missed Morgan and Toby, in a glaring way, given their role in the spine of the team. Yoshida was himself, meaning good with a couple of poor decisions and beaten for pace when turned. Clasie lost almost all his 121's and 50-50's. This wasn't so important when he pushed beyond the awesome Victor, but he didn't show for the ball as post overly as Morgan used to.

Mane was unplayable at times until he tired, and how brilliant to have Shane Long to come on. We weren't at last years level, but plenty to be pleased about.

Apart from Claisse who looked off the pace and will take time to settle in the rest of the new boys all looked impressive on debut. The rest all looked like they have had a good preseason and played well without ever excelling. Exception was Wanyama who was everywhere.

A solid if unspectacular performance but a nice way to ease into the new season.

Impressive for our first competitive game of the season. Took our foot off the gas in the second half, but understandable. Back four played well, but Mane and Vic were the stand out performers for me. Classie wasn't at the races but needs time. It may take him months to get up to pace, so I hope fans give him time. Some fans criticised Mane last season - now look at him!

The Stek made a great save and looks a reasonable pair of safe hands with good kicking.
Jordy was obviously off the pace but he has been travelling back and forth to Netherlands and the birth of his daughter has probably taken its toll.
Maya played ok but was nearly at fault for the Vitesse chance by just heading it back into play when in row D would have been better.
Fonte was great... and that move that left 2 of their players looking around for the ball was brilliant.
Matt was solid and never did anything wrong
Davis had a solid game
Tadic was good but I felt a lot more confident when Rickie was taking the penalties
Great Goal by our Pelle, worked hard and seemed to be right up for it with his italian temper.
Big Vic was excellent again as was Mane who on his day is electric but Cedric just gets my star player award. His speed and willingness to get up and back makes me forget Clyde

Who's next for a 3-0 hammering?

Considering, that normally we would still be in pre-season and the spine are new to each other, it was a good display if a little flat in the second half.

Mane and Victor were immense, Matt Targett has a fabulous curling long ball forward and Yosh looks more comfortable than ever.

Room for improvement but it is early doors.

Being old enough to remember the last time we played in Europe (Stau Bucharest) with all the disappointment that brought I can't tell you how much that game meant to me, and I'm sure to many other supporters. Sure, there were some things that could have been done better but overall, this was a fine performance from a thoroughly entertaining team. What we like to see is flowing, attacking football and that we saw in abundance. Difficult to pick a man of the match but as others have said, Mane and Wanyama are probably the stand-out men. Looking forward to see J Rod play on Sunday.

1st half acceptable but 2nd was poor. I know only like a pre-season so can forget this game really and the result only Important thing. Some players played well, some OK, some poor. Until we're properly tested jury out on how good they are.

Saints allowed to get into the game in the second half as they looked for an away goal. Best game I've seen Wanyama play in a Saints shirt. Mané was a joy to watch, he will be a target for some strong tackling again but if he stays injury free he will give any opposition a hard time.

A game of two halves and we dominated both. I suspect Borough are a decent team but we ran them off the pitch today and they couldn't match our tempo. Jamie Allen my man of the match.
