Leicester to be relegated?

Wonder if he'll demand a pay rise even as results go south.

Good to see Tony Ellis in there, although back in the days when he wasn't ours and he was one to be feared.

And Mike Conroy was a thorn in our side - seem to remember him for Burnley against us, and for Fulham against us too. We never seemed to handle him very well. TVOS will correct any brain fog here.

Southgate resigns

As a person expert in harbouring grudges, I would not back Poch, ever since he wailed, stomped and threw the toys out over the state of the COA pitch - wanted it digging up and relaying IIRC. Whilst the observation may have been accurate, our lads had to play on it every fortnight and his multi-millionaires should've just got on with it likewise. A whinger in my book, and won't do for me.

I agree. For those of a longer history of supporting Dale, and especially during the dark days of the 80s, we often had player, or indeed an entire team, that had a clanger, or several clangers, in them - the beauty and uncertainty of it was wondering who, when and how in each game. Some of these characters generated some affection, because they were clearly trying their best. All this has been stamped-out over recent years, following the Parkin and Hill eras.

So Windydale's reference to 'clangers' made me all misty-eyed for a second there.

I really hope for your sake he doesn't come from the David Bottomley school of how to mismanage a football club, or that he is mentored by him. Is he still banned? Should be.

Aye, I suppose so. One of life's 'if only' moments.

I don't know why I'm getting het up about either of those clubs TBF.

It was the final penalty. If I could do a screen grab I would. At the point of contact Onana has already stepped forward onto his left peg, and his right is airborne. So nothing is in contact with the line.

My error in that it wasn't saved, it was blazed over the bar, but the point remains - if matches are being decided on fine margins, then an advancing keeper in a shoot out is one such example that went overlooked.

Excellent to see the continuing inconsistent rules in play - penalising Coventry for a marginal (though correct) offside, but failing abysmally to spot United's keeper taking a massive step forward before saving one spot kick. It should have been retaken.

Why refer to him as BotBot? He is not a figure of fun, or amusement, but a man who brought irreversible harm on the club. That should never be forgotten, and I for one do not view him benignly.

My father was in an earlier intake than that - probably when it was in the Town Centre, mid-Forties. His overriding memory was of the head, Dr. Payne. Even the mention of his name made him shudder. This was in the days of school uniforms with caps - apparently a daily ritual was for all the boys to be outside at the start of the day, cap held aloft. Only when every boy had fallen into line would Dr Payne allow entrance. And woe betide the boy who forgot his cap.

Funny how the most feared teachers made the biggest and most long-lasting impression. Although in the Doctor's case, I think the impression was actually physical, meted out by cane or slipper.

Good evening Cobbler150

Which club were you referring to when you said that 'fraud of a club just up the road'? There are several around here I dislike, to varying degrees, so just wondered which of these had upset you, and why.

Cheers.

“Paul Walsh, a 56-year-old roofer, said he knew all about the controversy but he was still going to vote Labour anyway.”

I’m no expert, but how would this be possible?

So with his Pendle connections, and membership of Lancashire County Council, does he support PNE, Rovers or Burnley? I won't accept it would ever be Dale.

Certainly more use than commemorative Sunderland mugs. Even in the NW of England.

Perhaps less useful for drinking tea from, though.

"Anybody remember the days when we had a successful Goldbond at the club, how much cash did that generate every month towards the playing budget? Cash streams that are completely ignored while the club becomes more and more desperate."

Anyone remember which deplorable man decided he knew better, scrapped Goldbond and replaced it with a vastly inferior and more costly replacement?

Another baleful strand of that man's legacy.

A few names in that Leeds line-up went on to become well-known names:

David Harvey who was the main keeper between 1970 and the late 70s, and starred in the 1974 World Cup for Scotland;

Eddie Gray - the man who later went on to rescue us from the ignominy of relegation from the bottom division (imagine that);

Terry Hibbit who played for a few top line clubs;

Is 'M Bates' Mick Bates who played as a defender for Leeds for several seasons?

“Probably the worst decisions the club ever made.”

I’m not sure how it compares in ‘worstness’ against the decision to allow Bottomley within five miles of the place.

Never fully understood what RAFC did wrong in the 1980 re-election.

It was the other voting clubs who decided the outcome, and unless RAFC was responsible for the two no-shows, how could it be blamed?

It gained, certainly, by retaining League status, but surely any chairman in Ratcliffe' position would have done exactly the same - even Alty's chairman.

I do remember walking home from school on that day in 1980 with a mate holding his transistor radio to his ear, determined to break the news of RAFC's demise, and the general air of disbelief that it hadn't happened.

Rochdale is still in the North. No getting around that.
