He was really lightweight in the first half. There is a possibility that he is a bit unique and that takes time to adjust. I'm glad he's here and that he scored. Yet to see a performance that shows me what he can do. Obviously what Marti is looking for so happy to go with that. |

Our change in fortunes coincided with him moving to right back. Sorted out the defensive set pieces and gave us some passion. Not sure he is the long term solution and he'll have to play in the centre at some point. Love him though....a proper R. |

Well that was a game of 3 thirds.... First 15 mins we were sharp Next 40 mins we were gash Last 35 mins we were class Michi Frey MOTM - non stop and brilliant forward play. Cook is such an important player for us. Him, JCS and Field are the core of the team. Dembele is such a prospect. Smyth made a difference. Jimmy never gives up and nearly scored. Special mention for Nardi....lots of big saves. The big difference for me is that our bench can really make a difference now. Well done Marti, the players and everyone who went. Beat Luton home and away in the league and the cup in 4 days... [Post edited 30 Aug 22:09]

HT Started brightly. Lloyd was a threat. Frey quality and the ball movement good to watch. First ball in the box and we were so deep they had too much time to put a good ball to the back post. Unmarked header from 6 yards. Decent save from Nardi but Dunne got in a tangle and in went in the corner. Shite and unlucky at the same time. After the goal we lost all direction and they started playing in behind us and pressing us at the back. We didn't concede again and can regroup at half time. Madsen, Dembele and Lloyd not working for me. Marti needs to earn his crust |

To be fair we have kept most of our core squad with Championship experience. If Cifuentes caym get the blend right then it's an exciting tactic. It is a big shift from Ainsworth's summer....that's for sure. |

I definitely don't hate Smyth and think he makes things happen. I think he often tries to win fouls that won't get us into as good a position as if he just took his man on and put a cross in. Once it's a set piece in the championship it's not as easy to fins space. I also think he sometimes puts in good crosses but rarely puts in the right cross for what is actually happening. As in, he doesn't look up and pick a pass, just plays it somewhere roughly attacking. |

Just watched this. Linford was my idol growing up. I was 7 and 11 for the Olympics in 88 and 92. In those days we never won much at the Olympics and to have someone not only British but from Shepherds Bush. I thought he was amazing. His focus, his style, his body, his smile. The way he was treated by the press and therefore by a certain section of the British public was disgusting. I never really thought about it much as by the time he was banned I was off doing other things. These days he would have had media training and the whole false arrest and lunchbox thing wouldn't be acceptable. The testing process was also a bit of a joke. A lot of progress has been made since then although probably less than I think. Personally I don't believe he was a cheat. He was at the peak of a very influential sport at a time when doping was rife and the the tabloids were out of control. The offence he was caught for didn't make sense to be cheating. I believe there was a lot of racism surrounding how he was treated by the press and wider society. The documentary was a sad reflection on an amazing career. You could see the pain of those times and how it impacted him and his family. After watching it I felt defensive of my childhood idol. A sense of lost innocence. An insight into the merky adult world of cheating, accusations, racism, incompetence, labelling. I think I would rather focus on that moment in Barcelona in 92 and the pride of one of our own on top of the world. |
