Agree - no equal in my experience.
John McLaughlin was quick too but Hall was a superb player and we were fortunate to have him.
The pace of Edwards will be useful for this season if he stays fit. |

And, yes, three points on Saturday would a step in a better direction. I hope our land recovers and am sure it will one day but you have highlit most of the reasons that it won't for a very long time. Living away from the old country enables a unique and dispassionate overview. It saddened me when I realised what the UK had thrown away. |

Interesting observation.
It's twenty months since we returned to the UK for reasons that are of no concern/interest to this forum. And you are analytically right in our view.
Being able to compare, in your case and mine, France with Britain does show the latter to be in quite a poor way. Naturally I generalise and have no intention of moaning because we chose to return but our observations are made with a level head. There were plenty of things which could have been better in France - the ghastly hunting and the cost of DIY materials to name two - but on balance it's a kinder, gentler, less unfair society. We miss people's good manners, the excellent health system, proper meal times and the lower home loan costs amongst many things all of which contribute to a far higher feeling of contentment than is generally so here. I am sure that one day Britain can shine again but like a resurgent U's it's going to take ages . I'm sure you are best off there TooT even in an i-follow free zone.
I'm going to wander off for a pint. I can still do that even if half the pubs seem to be closing. I'll give 'em some custom and thank some lucky stars !

Yes, he looks a decent addition doesn't he Durham.
Five points from five, about what I expected with all the changes and hopefully a point away next Saturday too. A tiny hint of hope that we may become mid-table which would be such a relief and morale boost after so many years of steady decline.
That decline was/ is deep rooted and was always going to take time to reverse. A long time.
Mind you, trying to be positive but as ever realistic, I wouldn't be satisfied with ten points after ten games!!!!

Yep, good call.
We were poor against a poor side so I'll gladly take a point and sit mid table. It's early yet with a lot of newness for management to bed in. Mid table is probably the best I'm hoping for but I do see more resolve than in the last couple of seasons so maybe as things settle we'll all worry less about the bottom half of the table. We're all sick of that.
What a find is Goodliffe - he's only played about fifty minutes for us, had his head rearranged lost some teeth, spent time in hospital and is a centre back yet he's scored three goals in less minutes than our strikeforce (!) have collectively. When did we last have a toughie like that? He can stay. |

Another 5-3 on the cards here whilst they all get to know one another I suppose. Be interesting to see how long it will take to meld the new group. Hopefully not too long to cause concerns.
Our first games of the season are often full of goals, 6-3 at Chesterfield's old place, 7-1 at Norwich spring to mind so more goals today wouldn't surprise! |

Hmm, step 5 to league two is a heck of a jump Crash.
At step five level that's not necessarily a big goal haul although he clearly knows what the goal is.
If he were 18 or 19 maybe. But one never knows.
One thing I'm confident of is that the U's will know about him. |
