You are spot on re Martin getting on Dibling’s back - there was a break in play this afternoon with the score at 2-2 and you could see Martin having a go at Dibling face to face by the touch line. You could see Dibling didn’t agree with what he was being told to do and did have his say back but Martin was insistent so it ended with Dibling shrugging and gesturing as if to say what is the point? I reckon at 18 Dibling has a better footballing brain than the oaf Martin and certainly more of an idea how to play the game knowing his own ability. As you have pointed out, a perfect opportunity presented itself near the end to have got him away and quite possibly get the equaliser, that is, if we didn’t have such a numpty for a manager… Because of his love for SFC I thought we might have half a chance of him staying here for a while as he feels so at home here but every week Martin isn’t sacked the less likely that becomes… |

I really miss the Dell days - was talking to a good friend of mine who supports Man U (born & bred in Ancoats) and he was saying he remembered the days when I really looked forward to Man U & Liverpool games at The Dell and he never felt confident going down there as it was such a hostile atmosphere to play in and often difficult to get a result. Three of my top Dell days were victories against Man U (3-2 Keegan era & 6-3 when Keane got sent off) but that 4-1 win against Liverpool was probably the best 90 mins I have seen. On top of the four goals shared by Paul Rideout, Rod Wallace & Matt Le Tiss, both Rideout & Rod W hit the woodwork, Shearer could have had at least one before half time and Grobbelaar made several good saves one of which defied gravity let alone belief! Seriously, 8-1 would not have overly flattered us that day. Those were the days, just look at us now - and for that matter, what the game itself has become 35 years on from that glorious afternoon at The Dell. |

The three goal rule shall be observed - would help those observing the rule get back to the pub quickly if the turnstiles had revolving doors… |

I think he’s at the club but not in RM’s PL 26 - far as I know clubs have to select a PL squad of 26 players max and I don’t think ABK is in the mix. Have no idea if / when you can alter the nominated players or if emergency alterations can be made to cover injuries. I assume the January window must allow changes but not sure otherwise…. i stand to be corrected if that is wrong 😀 |

Thanks Nick, fair comment, I had not considered the reasons you have highlighted and therefore the potential impact had the Club done something along the lines of what Villa did to remember Chris. Having read your post it now makes sense so thanks for enlightening me - just didn’t join the dots up on that one… |

Agreed, so sad to see such a commanding player reduced to what he is today by this cruel condition. Had a bench seat under the West Stand when he was playing for us, it was just past the outside edge of the box so for 45 mins every game we had a ringside seat for a Dave Watson or a Chris Nicholl masterclass every home game. Hard as nails the pair of them but sadly both have had to pay a high price in later life - and I still have not forgiven the SFC hierarchy for failing to acknowledge CN’s passing at the following home game. |

Just go to one of its posts and tap the little icon with the red X in the bottom right hand corner of the post [ignore user] and it consignes all of its drivel to the UI sewers and you no longer have to read them. Did it for this tool and also that other tool Porchy Blue. Anything they post just disappears and any reply, like yours, I can read your reply but the original post just shows in a little box as ‘post from 130 ignored’ Simple, and makes the site Sk8 free for me as I have zero interest in the likes of 130 and anything they have to say. |

Pierce Charles is out of contract at the end of the season and only has a market value of about £150k so if he’s impressing for club & country I’d say he’s right up SR’s street. We could send them Baz on loan 😀 |

Those blocklists sound good, might well give it a go as both my daughter & I have now ditched Twitter completely. Must admit I make use of the ‘Ignore User’ facility on this site for the resident Sk8’s Porchy Blue & 130 Years so I never have to suffer any of their posts as they are consigned to virtual sewers than run below the website 🤢 |

Agreed ST - that’s exactly what I was thinking as I read your previous post and GRIM’s reply. The Liverpool lap-dogs within the media went into meltdown at the time and I half expected the Witchfinder General to rock up at Goodisom Park with a hanging party in tow. Pickford does for you now what Le Tiss did for us back in the day. Long may he stay at EFC & as England’s No.1 |

Good friend of mine works at Brentford, his evaluation of Ankersen’s time at BFC is as follows: - Had very little to do with any success Brentford achieved - Was very good at taking the credit for ideas put forward by other people that proved to be good ideas - Was even better at taking the credit for the achievements of others when those achievements were successful - There were high fives all round when he moved on to Saints, quite a few celebration drinks were enjoyed in the Fullers pub that used to stand on one corner of Griffin Park - Nobody misses him and things run much better now he has gone - He was forever looking at himself in the mirror and adjusting his coiffured wire wool hair My mate’s final summary of him is: Total narcissist, if he had his head any further up his backside he’d be in grave danger of impersonating the Oozlum Bird - you would have to know your Carry On films to fully understand that reference 😀 I had to ask - in Carry On Up The Jungle the Oozlum Bird sticks its head so far up its own backside it disappears! So there you have it, from someone that had the misfortune of working at BFC whilst he was there - seems nobody has a good word to say about him, off the record at least… His final observation was he feels genuinely sorry that we are having to put up with him. |

I think we have got to a stage where we need VAR II in place to monitor VAR! Staffed by ex-players not the oafs currently in charge of VAR, VARDV (VAR Decision Verification) would overrule VAR’s frequent wrong decisions and criminal bias towards the top clubs. Hostesses could serve coffee and snacks whilst we wait 9 minutes for VARDV to VAR VAR - so to speak… OK, I’ll get my coat 🙃⚽️ [Post edited 4 Nov 14:44]

Spot on ST, agree 100% - back in the day when Souness was still playing for Liverpool I was the Chairman at Millwall Lionesses and we took 16 young players & 4 parents up to see a game at Anfield as Liverpool were the No.1 team and still winning Div 1 titles. I wrote to the Club Secretary, the legendary Peter Robinson to see if it was possible. Although I didn’t even ask for comps, the Club provided 21 complimentary tickets in the front row of the Anfield Road end and said if we could be up there by 12.30 we could have a one hour tour behind the scenes. We finished up in the trophy room, they got out the (now old) Div 1 champions trophy, the League Cup, the Charity Shield and one of their replica European Cups so the players could have their photos taken with the trophies. Souness and several other players came in and did autographs and pics. One of those young players so inspired by the day went on to manage the England women’s team - Hope Powell. Oh yes, and the opponents were Spurs so those match tickets would have sold twice over. Can you imagine that happening today? Absolutely zero chance - you wouldn’t even get a reply if you asked…. As for Founders Lounge tickets, I did have a look through, £1600 for City & Arsenal plus Real Madrid, I don’t know, do the people that used to go to polo, the royal ballet and operas at Covent Garden now go to football? As you rightly say, we have nothing in common with people who pay as much for one match ticket as we do for two season tickets… |

The backroom staff have spent so much time analysing so many individual performance stats and metrics on their laptops that half the players have caught a computer virus 🤢 |

I will always remember David Pleat when he was co-commentating on a West Ham game when the fans had turned on manager Alan Pardew wanting him sacked. Pleat said “When the fans chant sack the manager, the board don’t worry - but when the fans chant sack the board, they sack the manager!” Very astute observation by Mr. Pleat, so, if you want the board to act, David Pleat would advise you to cut out the middle man and go straight to the top with a sack the board banner. 🙂 |
