Aspas and Vorm in swap deal
at 10:38 30 May 2014

Although he had a tough first season, Aspas can play every position in terms of the front part of a 4231. That sort of adaptability is really useful and considering that I doubt anyone other than Lpool would consider > £5m for Vorm, I think it would be a smart deal.

That's not the point. It's plausible that Aspas may have come in, scored 10 PL goals and we might have been in the exact same position. You just don't know, "bullet dodged" is way too emphatic.

Yup, in an ideal world we'd completely switch formations to accommodate a strike partner for a player who needs one less than most Prem strikers. Ideal.

Because there's an enormous amount of assumption involved in such a comment. No one knows how Aspas might have played under Laudrup or, had he been match fit more often, for Liverpool.

"Bullet dodged" type comments are ridiculous. I don't even want to get started on the YouTube related ones.

Borini has scored 0.16 non-penalty goals per 90 for Sunderland (Hooper 0.23, Steven Fletcher 0.22, Bony 0.43, just for some context) - that's obscenely low. Don't get me wrong, I like him and stats aren't everything, but is he really likely to be worth what he'd cost?

Ridiculous assumption from FF2, agreed.

Exactly. I would like Wilfried to stay, but it's by no means a certainty.

"Attracting players of a similar calibre without Laudrup's rep will be entirely impossible for Monk and for Swansea."

Not so sure about that myself.

Dream Signing

A cracking player on obscenely high wages.

Ince, Emnes and Fabianksi on frees, De Guzman permanently and Jefferson Montero would be a 'dream' transfer season for me.

Really isn't that ridiculous to think that Everton could stump up £25m ish.

Rangel replacement - blog
at 22:14 2 May 2014

Averages 0.17 defensive errors per 90 (in context - Ben avgs 0.03, Rangel 0) and has an even worse overall defensive profile than Ben (who has been pretty poor this year in terms of actual defending). Watch a lot of Spurs games because friends support them and, well, definitely not for me.

I think Rangel is still a good right back, don't get me wrong, but obviously at a certain point of his career curve. Would rather get a RB in now that can learn from him.

Not so sure about Ben at RB because I think his right foot is weaker.

Trippier a good shout but I doubt Leicester will sell. I wouldn't mind Byram but according to Leeds fans he's dropped off a bit.

Striker (especially with ACON) and winger main priorities for me too, just that the Rangel injury brought the whole replacement topic into the light.

I may too a similar thing for strikers. Maybe < £5m and see if there's anyone up to the job.

I've explored some of the options here in my first article for TheSwanseaWay - http://www.theswanseaway.co.uk/2014/04/rangel-injured-but-should-we-be-looking.h

I'd love to see Taylor work at RB to be honest. As I say in the piece, inverted full backs are all the rage at the moment.

Rio Wildcard: Shelvey or Barkley?

If done successfully, this would create a chance or a goal and come under 'chance creation' or 'non penalty goals'.. neither of which is the case with Barkley.

As I replied almost immediately, successful dribbles does not equal chances created. In Barkley's case, it quite evidently doesn't. The stats aren't mutually exclusive.

Thanks. Saw your other post and I do see the potential in him becoming a Gerrard-esque figure.

Were Barkley to be dribbling into 'dangerous areas', his chance creation would be far higher than it is. Like Mousa Dembele, most of his successful dribbles aren't translating into chances. Probably due to where he does them (centre-circleish).

I disagree about Shelvey not offering something others can. Bar Rooney and maybe Gerrard, there's no one with his passing range while Lallana, Sterling and arguably Wilshere can all play CAM and dribble like Barkley.

I've done an article about why Shelvey should go to Rio ahead of Barkley. The link is http://www.falseix.com/the-rio-wildcard-shelvey-or-barkley/

I was really quite surprised by how much better Shelvey is in certain areas.

I was quite surprised by that too. Think a large part of that is being used on the left. I'd like him as our second striker/a wing option.
