It’s basically a Frankenstein back four too.

Yes am not quite sure how that's happened as there have still been a few clumsy clearances, non tackles etc but any successful team starts performing from the back first. And we been without JCS and Paal also at times.

And clean sheets means a moment of brilliance and three points awaits.

Well done to the D - FENCE !!!!!

Very solid but left back is a big problem.
Couldn’t believe how many times Ashby gave away possession tonight .
I was suprised as he was as bright as button against Norwich .

well done them all and we are scoring again, without a recognised forward.

He is actually a right sided full back. Fair play to him, I say, young lad playing out of position.

Think some of our fans need to give some of our players a lot more support.

To be fair to Ashby he’s a very right footed wing back who is having to play left back as we don’t have anyone else.

He’s doing his best but that’s not an easy transition, he’s transparently uncomfortable there.

One of the big changes for me is that we are now playing to win games, rather than before the last international break where we were trying not to lose and losing. Confidence and momentum a big plus and Morrison and Cook look solid at the back. Ashby needs to cut out those bizarre long cross field left to right passes could have been costly against a better side tonight.

Fair points fellas . It’s his wrong side and to make things clear, I want the guy to do well and he wasn’t the only one who gave the ball away on a regular basis tonight .
Earlier in the season we would have lost that game but we got the job done against a poor Oxford side.

The Sky Sports researchers said it is the first time we have kept four consecutive clean sheets in eleven years.

Surely that stat deserves an open top bus parade or a bottomless drink token at Nandos for the team?

Never knowingly right.

Problem is he isn't our player and we shouldn't be allowing him to make mistakes for Newcastle's benefit

Can't see him making at Newcastle if he's wearing gloves on a mild December night in London!

He may become a Rangers player

He is not likely to be top half Premier league any time soon

Think we signed him as we realised Santos signing was possibly a mistake.

Paal is injured and Larkeche injured away on loan so who would you have at left back today. The manager rates him above Morgan Fox clearly

Define "good."

The number of games, size of squads, consistent quality of opposition teams. These are major factors in this division. It's not like the Premier League where teams can rotate players like they're on the waltzer at the fairground — Nkuku, for example, has only played in Chelsea's European games in case he gets hurt. It takes a different kind of "good" to play in our league. Stamina, versatility, resiliance, as well as ability.

As I always say you defend as a team . Our midfield has been much improved and we're playing three rather than two which makes us much less open through the middle. Saito and Smyth are doing a much better press than earlier in the season so our fullbacks rarely deal with wingers on their own which means the CBs are not having to deal with so many quality crosses. Also we've started scoring so the defence aren't having to constantly defend a nil scoreline.

Interesting you see 3 rather than 2 in the middle and I assume that's Madsen as the additional CM. But, I think he usually plays a more advanced role. Last night he spent much of the second half wide right, presumably to put more accurate balls into the box than Smyth.

Fair enough but I do think he's doing more off the ball work than we had earlier in the season. Also Varane is winning more ball in midfield. My main point is when we let in goals it's not just down to the defence and nor is it when we keep clean sheets.

Ashby wasn't brilliant and his passing was a bit off. However there was a pass he kept trying where he cut in in his right foot and tried to find a more advanced midfielder in the middle. He rarely pulled it off but I liked the idea as if pulled off it would have got us away on the break nicely.

those bizarre long cross field left to right passes

If Barbet was playing them, these would be "diags" - check your glossary or I'm gonna point at Pete.

I like what I've seen of Ashby. I can see that he definitely has some defensive weaknesses, but I like that he's quite progressive, always looking for a forward ball, and quite happy to get forward to join the attack.

Mind you, if he's still at LB when Chair comes back, that could be the most right-footed left side of any team in history!
