Excellent performance today 19:24 - Oct 5 with 3971 views | Southamptonfan | I was at the game and Saints put in a good shift today. All the Saints fans there were very positive, no.complaints today. Very frustrating that, had we played half as well at Bournemouth as we did today, we would have got a result. We were unlucky. We hit the bar, they had a dubious 2nd goal that could have been offside. We probably scored the goal at the wrong time. Our goal, woke up the beast unfortunately. There were many positives. Archer can score goals, just not penalties it seems. Dibling excellent again. Tall Paul came on and played a blinder. He is a presence, he's strong, he holds the ball up well and he ran and ran. We need to give him a chance. Jan B was immense today. Fernandez is a good player. Ramsdale made some good saves, but I have to say I was little disappointed to see him give his shirt to an Arsenal fan rather than a Saints fan. The Leicester game coming up is absolutely huge. I think RM should be given that game personally, but we have to win it. If we play.like we did today, we probably will, but will we? We shall see. [Post edited 5 Oct 19:40]

Excellent performance today on 20:13 - Oct 5 with 3807 views | mushinexile | Very glad to see that Tall Paul came good today. I felt he hadn't been given a fair crack of the whip and always thought there was a decent player in him. I had assumed that the criticism of him on here was that of people who knew better than me but I would really like to see what he is capable of with some regular football.
Excellent performance today on 20:19 - Oct 5 with 3706 views | kingslandstand1 | Adam Blackmore on Solent said much the same apart from.the first 20-30 mins and def best performance of the season However, I still think he should go possibly depending on the Leicester game if he resorts back to previous style. I haven't seen the goals but I understand 1st one, poss 2nd as well we're down to stupid errors? Just a shame that 3rd went in as would have been a reasonable, unexpected scoreline otherwise
Excellent performance today on 20:48 - Oct 5 with 3699 views | grumpy | It all had the air of inevitability about the result even when Archer scored. The first half we hardly got out of our half. The second half we started well and scored but within 3 min they equalised. They were all over us then and within 10 minutes took the lead. In those 10 minutes Martin should have made changes. Martin is not good enough in this league ,when it goes wrong it stays wrong. Changes and more changes,I've lost count.
Excellent performance today on 22:06 - Oct 5 with 3454 views | sledger | we took the lead then instead of hanging tough we continued to take chances and conceded almost straight away, its the height of stupidity, however i was happy to clap them off as the team put a shift in
Excellent performance today on 09:00 - Oct 6 with 2831 views | Berber | It is remarkable that we held out for as long as we did. Luckily, we scored a goal out of the blue. We are still way, way off the standard to survive in this league.

Excellent performance today on 09:09 - Oct 6 with 2816 views | dirk_doone | In the end, as they pointed out on MOTD, it was the silly passing around at the back that cost us. We give away more goals that way than any other team in the league. If we could just stop that, we'd start picking up points. It's a shame, because we played sensible tactics for much of the game, and at one time it really looked like we might hold out for a draw. As you say, the players really tried. You could see that Ramsdale, who was outstanding as usual, was gutted when the goals went in. The fans are still sticking with the team, and it's going to be great when we get our first win.

'The fans are still sticking with the team, and it's going to be great when we get our first win' Our fans have been magnificent particularly away from home.
Excellent performance today on 10:09 - Oct 6 with 2635 views | felly1 | Watching back the highlights the Archer goal and Saints fans joy was a special moment. We were always likely to get found out eventually yesterday against Arsenals . The culprits were Downes and Sugawara but a battling performance overall means pride is intact. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

When players get tired late in the game. passes inevitably start to go astray. It's happened in every game so I wouldn't blame individual players for it. They are under instruction to pass the ball sideways and backwards in their own half, when they should be told to get it over the halway line before doing that, especially when we are trying to hang on to a lead. Frankly, we need to abandon the emphasis on passing stats and concentrate on scoring goals and stopping them.

Excellent performance today on 11:20 - Oct 6 with 2456 views | Berber | Tired? After 58 minutes? In the same way that we (nor most teams) could not maintain a high press for 90 minutes, RH never came up with a sensible alternative. Selles did at least try another way, but to little effect. It would have been hard for anyone following the NJ disaster and inheriting a demoralized squad. Possession football once used to be the means to take a breather. We can’t do that very well at present, and our last ditch defending style is what it is, next to chaotic.

Excellent performance today on 12:42 - Oct 6 with 2257 views | sledger | playing a stupid amount of posession football is why we arnt fit enough to last the game, being out of posession and chasing the ball is far harder,we had to chase more yesterday and ran out of petrol and made mistakes

"They are under instruction to pass the ball sideways and backwards in their own half, when they should be told to get it over the halfway line before doing that" Absolutely Dirk. The other big issue with this way we play is that when against a decent top 3 team they can press so well and force the mistakes we inevitably will make. And when you are only 20 - 30 yrds from your own goal line there will also be another inevitability!

Tired after 58 minutes. Perhaps RM should concentrate on getting them fitter with harder, staminer building training sessions. Every team we've played this season have looked sharper & fitter than we are. When you are relying on players that aren't as good as the opposition you can make up for it by being fitter & stronger than they are. Technically we are not as gifted as most of teams in the Premier lge which is understandable with our limited finances so we have to find othe ways of bridging that gap , if we can't do that it's inevitable that we'll get relegated.
Excellent performance today on 13:59 - Oct 6 with 2001 views | robcoe5 | Not sure why people are saying excellent performance, we could have been 3 or 4 down in first 20 minute. They might of put in a bit of fight but still no forward play, Teams find it easy to play against us . Time for manager to go

that is an over reaction, there would be 10 teams in the league that would be forced to play the same way,our problem is making basic errors, cut those out then we will be more competative,we arnt a great side but we could be better.

Fitness , or lack of, is certainly an issue. In the past, when Saints were in trouble, they replaced failing managers with Alan Ball and later with Gordon Strachan. Both of theses guys recognized the need to up the fitness levels of the team and succeeded in turning the season around. « If you play for 90 minutes you need to train for 90 minutes », to quote WGS.
