Quickest ever player to represent Colchester United? 07:51 - Sep 23 with 1250 viewsSparkfilmsTV

I wonder if this may be Owura Edwards?

Others that come to mind include Perry Groves, Brian Hall and Jimmy Oliver.

Either way, Owura Edwards is an exciting player to watch and his pace could be a real asset as Colchester United begin to create a new identity.

I’m not certain the U’s have ever run time trials, but Mick Mahon was no slouch. That being said, watching Owura literally just run past right backs with ease is hilarious to watch.

Brian Hall in the late 60's converted to fullback from being a left winger was pretty quick and one of the very first overlapping full backs.

Brian was ahead of his time.

He scored several goals by picking the ball up in the left back position, floating a pass about 40 metres forwards ( to himself! ) chasing the ball down and even going round the goalkeeper to score.

He favoured the open end for this incredible feat.

We trained together in the summer pre-season - he was at Chelmsford City by then and he taught me simple methods that he had learned while training with Mansfield Town.

I thought it worth mentioning a very simple training routine that was as follows -

Put two cones down 50 metres apart on flat grass surface. Walk at good pace from first cone to second. Turn, jog back to cone, turn, sprint to cone. Repeat for 10 minutes.

This was so simple. It may not be relevant to today's high octane levels but doing this as part of the basic training twice a day would build the lung capacity that mirrored the activity you might get in match conditions.

Everything is relative but it should be remembered that many of us played football Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning throughout an entire season.

I can remember playing five times a week towards the conclusion of some seasons and into June

One Colchester Sunday League season stretched into July.

A joy to watch.
Think he was also at Belper Toen but played the majority of the games for us.
If I recall as a left winger he was out of the side and we had an emergency as no left back and he slotted in from.day one as his natural and best position
Never forget the runs up the left side.

Wayne Andrews was rapid.

yes great memories of Brian Hall late 60's and early 70's the best "wing back" I've ever seen.

Agree - no equal in my experience.
John McLaughlin was quick too but Hall was a superb player and we were fortunate to have him.
The pace of Edwards will be useful for this season if he stays fit.
