Harrowing stories in the media .about pubs on the brink of insolvency due to reduced footfall because of the latest variant.
Personally I don't like beer but force it down to keep my mates at Fuller's going.
Seriously though, how are things in your local?

Many years ago, a mate and his girlfriend took me to one of the roughest pubs I have ever beheld, The Sprat in Didcot. Diamond White chasers agogo.

The girlfriend glided up to the bar in her immaculate cashmere coat and ordered a coffee. Everyone remained civil and calm...because she was the personnel manager at the huge local distribution company and half the punters worked with her

It's sad to see pubs disappearing, it's part of our culture and they've been a huge part of our lives, well, certainly mine.

To lift the mood, here's an atmospheric pub, in Doncaster, apparently...

Brilliant vid, someone posted it up years ago on a board, still laughing.

Ha, a young gent I knew a couple of streets over from me here in Massachusetts worked in that bar. The owner is his uncle.

Small world. Work just up the road from there. I believe the owner is Kieran Ganley. I organised a Christmas work lunch for us through him once and he was a throughly good bloke and their food is top notch. That pub has been there since 2004 in it's current guise. One of the last remaining pubs in Morden these days. He must be doing well, it's always busy and to be fair the place is still in top condition. Their pint of Guinness is a absolutely on the money. Nice atmosphere. The Irish folk around Merton absolutely love it in there.

…The GBH, corner of Ladbroke Grove and Lancaster road.

KPH was sold a few years ago for north of £4m to a trendy London pub operator. The new owners spent a small fortune on the refurb as well: www.thekph.co.uk

Doubt many of the old clientele can afford the prices in there nowadays.

Pint in Princess Vic, Crown and Sceptre, Queen Adelaide £6-£7, Pint in social clubs, White Horse, Shepherd and Flock, Conningham £3-£4 and Pint at home £1-£2

Double or treble the price to do the same thing with the same product?!?!

I'm don't think the premium to drink in a Fuller's, Young’s, Metropolitan etc, is worth it and will be limiting my spending in them.

Plus, the food in pubs is rarely that special and often the same price as a restaurant so makes sense for me to go to an actual restaurant over a gastro pub.

The scran in Fuller's pubs is usually very good. They get their stuff from Owtons butchers and is of a high standard.

Of course if like me you like Real Ale, then bottles at home don't cut the mustard although I have a barrel of Pride here at the moment.

Nothing beats the pub experience for me, I think the beer would have to be really expensive to keep me away. There were stories in the papers recently of a pint going up by 10p to keep pubs' finances in order but of course that would he counterproductive if it put folk off from visiting the pub.

Hard times my friends.

Yeh if these stories being leaked into the favoured newspapers (because, of course) about January are true I fear for our pubs. Basically it's not going to be a lockdown, they're not going to be ordered to close, and therefore little/no help, but also back to outside only and rule of 6 out there - in the middle of January. Fcking scandalous.
Crown landlord was telling us they actually had two of their best weeks of the last ten years recently, when QPR played twice in the week plus a band night on one of the other days. But, just to really hammer home how dire Sky's impact is, on the Saturday we were meant to play Forest they took 800 quid all day.

I think the same way mate.I have loads of cans in the house, but drinking indoors isn’t the same for me as the social side of sitting in the pub drinking.
And 10p a pint won’t make any difference to the average pub goer as they will still buy it anyway, pretty much the same as fuel prices I think.
We might moan about it but we still pay it anyway.

Seems i'm lucky in Leigh On Sea, a dozen pubs between a 5 - 10 minute walk from my front door. At least another dozen bars in the same range. Half the east end has moved down here in the last 30 years so the demand is there.

I can name 50 pubs at least that have gone from East Ham, Upton park, Ilford, Seven Kings, Manor Park, Forest Gate, Plaistow, Manor Park, chadwell Heath, silvertown, Canning town and stratford since 1990. Really Tragic. Awful.

The Duke Of New York. A-Number One.

Mad it's just the Blackwall Tunnell ..why?.............

I see how you are killing time tonight Boston typing about pubs instead of setting up QPR highlights for us like usual. Its a bit strange having zero games this week after a run of multiple games per week.
I read about pubs in Ireland and England with severe crippling restrictions yet over here in America they are packed to the rafters with college kids back home and not a mask in sight.
I will correct that statement ,you have to wear a mask coming in ,going out and moving around to the bathroom etc

Younger people don't really go to the pub round here, unless it is spoons. Tbh the only entertainment they ever have on are cover bands playing songs from before I was born, pub quizzes aimed at an older crowd and karaoke with hardly any modern songs on. That and it's expensive. Got rid of all the pool tables too. Was about 4 pre lockdown.
