Games being postponed due to UK fuel shortage 10:30 - Sep 28 with 1604 views | KeithHaynes | The ongoing and much talked about fuel crisis hits English football with leagues postponing matches throughout this week. The current fuel shortage is causing havoc with the non league schedule as games continue to be called off with teams struggling to travel to stadiums up and down the country. Petrol stations up and down the country were raided on Friday and throughout the weekend as consumers made desperate attempts to fill up. Reports of a fuel shortage caused by a lack of HGV drivers has caused panic among many leaving football clubs lower down the football pyramid to suffer. Even though some journeys are considered minimal in mileage, clubs are still not keen to take the risk. Herne Bay, who play in the eighth tier of English football, have postponed their game with Ramsgate, who are just 14 miles away. In a statement they said: “The Isthmian League sent out an opportunity to clubs to postpone their midweek fixtures due to the fuel shortage, and anticipated difficulties getting players, officials and supporters to matches. “Ramsgate shortly after accepted this option and have asked to postpone our fixture due to travel difficulties. “This is outside our control.” Bowers Pitsea vs Corinthian-Casuals and Hornchurch vs Folkestone Invicta, both seventh tier clashes, have also fallen foul to the fuel shortage. Hastings United were due to host Ashford United, which would’ve been a 50 miles round trip for the visitors. Games being postponed due to UK fuel shortage on 15:40 - Sep 28 with 1365 views | swan_si | Its not a fuel shortage, it's a shortage of drivers, most of these drivers are employed through agencies, these companies should be made to employ drivers full time, its all about avoiding holiday and sick pay along with NI.

Games being postponed due to UK fuel shortage on 18:05 - Sep 28 with 1259 views | KeithHaynes | A lack,of lorry drivers is interesting, especially when folk are saying ‘rush through their Hgv tests etc ‘ Unfortunately the CPD can take three months to be able to drive after passing, and costs a fortune. Short sightedness.

Games being postponed due to UK fuel shortage on 18:24 - Sep 28 with 1231 views | Badlands | Brian Madderson, Chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association, (I think) was interviewed on Sunday and laid the blame fairly and squarely on the government and Shapps in particular. There is plenty of fuel. There are not sufficient forecourt HGV drivers. Using the army would add a few 10s of forecourt capable drivers when we need thousands. Suggesting 3 month visas for foreign drivers is a joke. The PRA have been highlighting their concerns since 2012. The problem is Patel's immigration laws being rushed through parliament without scrutiny or the government taking any notice of the warnings from the industry. Shapp's claimed the situation was worse in parts of the EU, that is a lie. Brian Madderson, (I think) stated the situation would be resolved Wednesday or Thursday this week when people in high population areas had all filled their cars and not used the petrol they had bought. Back to football … games have gone ahead without fans for 18 months, as long as teams can travel no games should be postponed.

I went to two garages this morning there was no fuel, to me that’s a shortage. Couldn’t care what the boffins say.
Games being postponed due to UK fuel shortage on 20:34 - Sep 28 with 1167 views | Dr_Winston | There is plenty of fuel. There are enough drivers to get it to garages. There aren't enough brain cells in the average person to not madly panic and get more fuel than you need because eight garages out of about 8000 have had an issue.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Games being postponed due to UK fuel shortage on 22:29 - Sep 28 with 1109 views | Catullus | Meanhile in Cardiff there was no petrol shortgae but the game was nearly called off due to lack of interest. In one unconfirmed report a bluebird supporter claimed 17000 fans were queueing for petrol at Tesco Culverhouse cross and missed the game because of the fuel crisis. However tesco denied this and said it was simply football fans running away, scared that watching any more of "that rubbish" would put them permnanently to sleep.
