Many moons ago I went out with a girl surname of Dunk. Lovely girl. Her old man told me a story. He was watching Grandstand one Saturday afternoon and the last winning jockey mentioned at the end of a batch of racing results was his namesake ... Dunk. Frank Bough (bless his soul) says "Dunk, that's a funny name" and proceeds to read out the latest football scores. So my ex's Dad incandescent (except he wasn't - or was he?) writes a letter (more in jest than anger) to Frank along the lines of ... "You think Dunk's a funny name? And Bough isn't? How the fcuk is it pronounced anyway ... Boff? Bow? Bugg?"
Remember this is light years before email/ text message etc. The next Saturday ... live on Grandstand ... Frank reads the letter out and in a hands up yes you've got a point there kind of way ... apologises.
