Catalonia declares independence. on 20:08 - Oct 27 by whoflungdung | Its a rebel mentality ,a need to feel hate, a catharsis of the rot on the soul. Catalonia is showing utter arrogance |
You hate more groups of people that you have never met than anyone else on this forum. It must be to do with your age, cos its not normal to have that level of hate. Maybe you feel your world is disappearing around you ? Try not to worry so much..... it might help ? â˜˜ï¸ [Post edited 27 Oct 2017 20:28]

With a population of over 7.5 million, can’t see how Spain can stop them. They want independence and should get it, end of. Anything else would be akin to the USSR, China, North Korea etc. The Spanish government are swimming against the tide. The majority want independence. All the Spanish government can do is hold the process up, but in the end Catalonia will be free, and another nail in the coffin of the Frankenstein project (eu).

https://www.quora.com/Catalan-independence-Would-Valencia-and-Balearic-islands-j Should Catalonia achieve independence then there is the possibility of Valencia (they also speak Catalan) and the Balearic Islands of Majorca,Minorca and Ibiza would join them

Frankenstein? The sensible thing is to hold a proper referendum. Every democratic country should be pushing for that - never mind all this crap about not interfering in "national" issues. Then if the Catalonians vote for it so be it. Same for the Basques, Flemish , Bretons whoever. Either you believe in democracy or you don't.

Catalonia declares independence. on 20:06 - Oct 27 by SY1973 | There is no desire for Scottish or Welsh independence. The Scottish voted against independence in 2014. The Welsh would reject independence by around 90 plus percent. |
I don't think any of that is entirely true. The Scottish independence vote was reasonably 50:50 so not true to say there is no desire there as there clearly is and Scottish independence is inevitable at some point in the future. They Welsh would reject independence, of that I have no doubt but I doubt very much it would be 90% no, 70-80% maybe but that's just splitting hairs. Still, it's not true to say there is no desire in Wales either as there clearly is, just not on the same scale as in Catalonia or Scotland, but that's most like due to the economics of it more than anything else.

Why? Geographically they are all in close proximity of each other. All have come under the umbrella of.Catalonia in the past.

Do they want independence though? That's not a question that's been adequately answered in a proper open, free and fair vote. The situation is probably similar to the one in Scotland where the independence minority shout a lot louder than the union majority. So anyone looking in from outside only sees the people shouting for independence.

"This poll, conducted among citizens of Valencia, shows that only 2.5% of them consider themselves “only Valencian (but not Spanish)” That comment rings true to me, Bony. My parents live the best part of the year in the Valencia region, they have done for about the last eighteen years and I've been back and forth a few times a year, every year, all that time. If there is a separatist/secessionist voice in the region it is so muted as to be practically inaudible. You know the old saying about politics and religion being the two topics one should avoid in polite conversation, you also know me on here, they are probably the themes that animate me most. If there was something of a groundswell in Valencia I'd like to flatter myself that it isn't something that is likely to have passed me by.

Catalonia doesnt have a Government, it has representatives in the Spanish Government. It is up to the Catalonia representatives to do this legally as per their constitution. What they did was totally illegal and non binding in Spanish law, this is the whole problem. The way it was done in Sotland was the the right way to do it, although the UK constitution allows it, the Spanish one does not. Fwiw, they should be allowed one, but they wont get one now. Itll be jackboots and truncheons instead. [Post edited 28 Oct 2017 13:32]

The reason the question wasn’t answered adequately is because the Spanish government wouldn’t allow it to be.
