South Yorkshire Police 22:44 - May 17 with 3257 views | Trom | Not surprised that they're in the news again resulting from past events. I've supported the Rs for 30 years and had a few experiences when I've been treated as dirt just for being an away supporter. West Midlands is another force that has been shocking down the years. Having said that things have got better on general since the 90s but there are still incidents albeit fewer and less extreme in my experience.
South Yorkshire Police on 10:53 - May 18 with 3158 views | stowmarketrange | After the way a few poor sods got attacked in 2004 up there, they deserve everything they get. Why didn't they think that a group of the Wednesday thugs would appear at kick off time and start trouble by attacking innocent fans? Also a mate of mine got punched by a Wednesday fan outside the ground in the late 80's and the copper who saw it said to him "it's your own fault for coming up here."
South Yorkshire Police on 13:46 - May 18 with 3099 views | Brightonhoop | It's taken several years, and scandals from Hillsborough to the nonce scandal, with louder and louder calls for an Inquest into Orgreave 30 years on, but they are slowly but surely coming unstuck.

A train load went up to Sheffield Wed in the late. 70s. We were being escorted from the station to the ground. We got to an estate where Wed fans were throwing bottles and bricks at us . While the coppers were all facing us with the missiles coming over their heads. My mate picked up a brick that had narrowly missed him and threw it back. Old bill then tried to nick him which resulted in a scuffle with us and the police . While the Wed fans still threw things. This was South Yorkshire Police 40 yrs ago

Ah yes, 1980, we were down and that away trip was early in the season. Their welcoming committee ambushed the train peloton, while those of an independent travel minded spirit were also experiencing sporadic volleys of various ordinance as we proceeded on our way around the bars of the City Centre. On some occasions we encountered semi round rough black stuff heading in our direction, lending weight to our suspicions that the opposition in that particular game of hide and seek were the Orgreave Anthracite Crew. Forgotten how we played that day, but decent Rangers turn out, lost 1-0 I recall. S'funny, I remember we had right f...Ing difficult finding the van after the game as none of us were familiar with Sheffield.
