Any suggestions? I'll list peoples suggestions below; LisaLondon: "Bony missed easy chances" Garry Monk: "We didn't concentrate" [Post edited 4 Oct 2014 17:23]

What will be this weeks excuses? on 19:55 - Oct 4 by A_Fans_Dad | Could it be that Newcastle are underestimated by the Team and the Fans? |
Exactly, they are low on confidence at the moment but they do have some good players, Krul made 2 world class save, Tiote was everywhere today, and Cisse when on form is a top finisher. This is the PL where we will have games like today

What will be this weeks excuses? on 19:45 - Oct 4 by A_Fans_Dad | A very weak team that has drawn with Hull and beaten Palace, they can't be quite that weak. |
If a draw with Hull is a highlight, then yes, it's pretty safe to assume they are a weak team
What will be this weeks excuses? on 20:14 - Oct 4 with 1260 views | oldcob | Personally I thought the problem was down the flanks. i.e. the supply of good ball from full back to winger, thats why we had to persist in long balls down the middle, because it just wasn't working down the sides.

True. Routs/Tayls and Dyer/Jaz didn't form effective partnerships at all. No pairing n our team is better than Rangel/Dyer. Yet apparently Rangel is no good, so go figure. Not sure why we were so hesitant down the flanks today. It's not like they had any fliers we needed to stand off
What will be this weeks excuses? on 20:23 - Oct 4 with 1232 views | Spratty | I was most disappointed that we could not hold onto the lead when we had 2 chances to do that against a poor team with 1 man to watch really, which was entirely predictable. We did seem quite slow and a little lost at times. Fair play though I agree if we had scored another goal we would have won (unless of course they scored another 2). But we didn't and they didn't. Great that Bony is off the mark though. By the time the subs came on it hardly seemed worth it. But at least we didn't lose which would have been much worse. Disappointing to watch but onwards and upwards - we have that valuable cushion that is currently still averaging us at just over 1.5 points per game and a couple of the more winnable games to come before we face the stronger teams in Nov.

What will be this weeks excuses? on 17:03 - Oct 4 by DwightYorkeSuperstar | I'm very annoyed, Perch. We should have won that game with ease. We were 10x the team they were. Why we can't put these teams away despite our overwhelming superiority is difficult to understand. Garry has put together an outstanding team which is not picking up the results it should be doing. |
If you don't take your chances when they come along you'll get punished, especially at this level. That's football for you. No point in writhing of hands or suchlike after a game like that. It's frustrating but it happens to everyone. No doubt at some point we'll be on the other end of it. Such is life. I'd be far more concerned if we weren't dominating games and creating chances than failing to put teams away having done so.

agreed but you shouldn't have to score 3 goals to win a home game 2 goals should be enough defenders did their job today they were poor simple as that | | | | Login to get fewer ads

But we've done that against Burnley, Chelsea, Southampton and now Newcastle.. I've pointed it out since Burnley.. small margins Garry! Small margins.. like bringing on Emnes and Montero late.. Gylfi and Dyer needed subbing before the goal.. our second half collapses when we concede.. Taylor needs a talking.. he stands out like a sore thumb.. these are the small margins that win games.. some simple and vital contributions.. Gylfi seems to fade away every second half.. Dyer does it.. Shelvey drifts off late on.. he's shot himself in the foot.. our concentration lapsed? Make subs then Garry.

What will be this weeks excuses? on 12:42 - Oct 5 with 985 views | VetchitBack | A few very vocal posters on here like to obsess about scapegoats. A few need them and then a larger contingent like to attack anyone who points out a few faults and will accuse them of scapegoating. I think Bony's lack of ball control and slow thinking cost us dear today. The amount of times Siggy or Shelvey deftly made space and looked for a relatively simple one-two to be through on goal only for him to mimic a hungover Sunday-leaguer shocked me. But I suppose that's what you get from him. And crucially goals.

What will be this weeks excuses? on 17:41 - Oct 4 by londonlisa2001 | what lost us 2 points was that we didn't clinically take our chances. But then that's why we are not challenging for a top 4 place. It's because strikers that do take every chance (or pretty much every chance) cost tens of millions and earn £100k plus a week. We can't afford them, so we have forward players who don't finish every one but will finish one or two in a game. I don't mean just Bony - I mean the front 4. Every team concedes a number of chances in a game to the other side - it's having the ability to create more chances than you concede that makes you a good team, and we do that in pretty much every match. If our front players were absolute top quality, we'd be a great side as we would win today 4 or 5 2 rather than drawing. |
Yes, this Man Citeh and Chelski. Now where is that billionaire owner that we were looking for ? Not sure what all the fuss is about since we are a mid table team and currently punching above our weight. Yes, we should have beaten Newcastle but we will always be in danger of losing these type of games due to reasons above. All the same it's fun being in the PL ... Stoke next up ...

What will be this weeks excuses? on 18:13 - Oct 4 by londonlisa2001 | Well I thought we sat back, were slow in build up play on the face of it, but then suddenly broke like lightening (some beautiful 1 and 2 touch passes through the middle) to create space and good opportunities so it didn't have the blood and thunder that we sometimes see, but I struggle to think of too many occasions when we created quite so much. We should have scored 5 or 6 and then no one would have said that we were poor. We always make some mistakes at the back, again because we have good but not the best in the league type players (and even Chelsea / Man City always give away one or 2 chances). The big frustration for me is Bony at the moment - he is playing beautifully in link ups, lay offs and so on, but just is not burying the stuff that he should be burying. I hoped that today's goal would change that, but he then missed 2 that he should have scored 9 times out of 10. |
The saved chance in the first hand could be argued that if he hit it harder it would have gone in but Krul's save in the second half was "Corriganesque" (for fans of a certain age). He had no right to make that save, it was an absolute blinder or worldie. No blame can be apportioned to Nony with that chance surely? Edit - for Nony read Bony [Post edited 6 Oct 2014 13:06]

Sorry not taking our chances was not the reason for us dropping 2 points we took two of our chances and that should be enough to win at home poor defending is the only reason we dropped point as Ashley admitted scoring two at home you should win the game

yes it may be a little harsh to regard that as a chance he should have scored. The one in the first half he should have scored though I think, and also he had a chance that came back to him after a free kick where Ki missed striking the ball properly after Gylfi swung it in and it was blocked from Bony's shot. To be honest I think, as I said, he's playing great, but he's not looking composed in front of goal as yet.

I know what you mean, but if we'd gone 2 nil or 3 1 up we would have won and we had chances to do that. I always think we look like conceding 2 at home - we play quite expansively and not as tight as others do, so conceding no goals or just 1 sometimes looks beyond us. I don't know about you, but unless we score 3 or more, I can never relax and enjoy the game thinking we've done it !
What will be this weeks excuses? on 15:30 - Oct 6 with 713 views | MattG | Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but what about the game in 2011/12 when Newcastle came down. We played them off the pitch for 90 minutes with something like 75% possession and lost 0-2 with Cisse getting at least one if not both. The one he definitely got which was pretty special when he managed to chip Vorm from the edge of the area despite falling backwards on his arse.
