Plymouth Argyle 1 v 2 Swansea City EFL Championship Tuesday, 10th December 2024 Kick-off 19:45 |
Plymouth Argyle v Swansea City : Pre match & latest news Tuesday, 10th Dec 2024 14:30 by Liam Walters In just a few hours Swansea City take on Plymouth Argyle at Home Park, Devon at 7:45pm. Many Swans fans believe the last two games have seen four points thrown away by missing golden chances, so will tonight be the same ? We would have brought you the Luke Williams post match interview but it’s a three minute creep fest talking about Wayne Rooney. Basically all he said was, "We have to control the game as much as we can and we have to be resilient and tough, because they are going to be fighting for everything and will have the support they need." Heard that before, so nothing from the Swansea City head coach today. The Swans are definitely without Ollie Cooper, although he is responding ‘exceptionally well’ to his rehabilitation. He could well be back in training proper in around three to four weeks. Sam Parker is not ready and needs more weeks to recover and Josh Ginnelly is slowly working back to fitness but we don’t think he will be ready for three to four weeks. That’s if he manages it thorough the final phases of getting back to fitness. He was at this stage some six months ago and broke down so we really do wish him all the best. Andy Fisher is close, but the reaction of Luke Williams when his name was mentioned on the weekend was a bit disinterested. Rumours he could go out on loan are not speculation. We believe the club would prefer him away from the squad to get back to fitness, his contract doesn’t expire until 2026 so that’s makes sense. Jon McLaughlin Is back up at the moment but our sources tell us Martyn Margetson is more than happy with him, giving Fisher a loan opportunity. That would mean extending Jon’s contract. Wayne Rooney, Plymouth head coach, may well be managing Wayne Rooney’s ( put any non league club name here ) if he doesn’t take this opportunity to show he has managerial ability in the Championship. It’s been hard for him yet again. His sides home record is decent though, it’s on the road where they leak goals. They have a new coach in Mike Phelan, no stranger to Wayne Rooney, and his first week with the Pilgrims won’t do the side any harm at all. Four Plymouth squad players have all played for the Swans, Ogbeta, Sorinola, Obafemi and Whittaker the latter never happy at the Swansea.com with well evidenced issues with the ways the Swans played over many months. The strategy and coaching methods didn’t appeal to him either. He also didn’t see eye to eye with then head coach Russell Martin which spilled over at times. Whittaker could still play tonight. If he does a crunching early tackle will sort him out. Nothing personal Morgan, but you did yourself no favours at Swansea City. Apparently his little pinky toe hurts, and he hasn’t seen action for a few weeks. Ryan Hardie is another who regularly has time out due to injury, albeit a more likeable player he can cause problems. Swans fans will obviously expect Michael Obafemi to bag a goal, it’s what we do. Maybe get it over with from the off and then start playing ? On the game Rooney has stated, “We were disappointed the game was cancelled on Saturday,” said Rooney. “We wanted to play; I felt we were in a really good place. We had a very physical, very tough week for the lads, but I think it was needed. We were in on Saturday, doing as much as we could really. It was difficult with the weather, but we are prepared for the game. Preparations have been good. We've had a little bit longer to work on Swansea than we would have, that's a positive. We've put the work and preparation in, and now we're ready for the game on Tuesday. Swansea are a good team; they keep the ball really well, similar to what we've seen from Swansea over the years. They like to keep possession, try to wear you down and break you down, and have overloads in the final third. For us, it's about us really: how we approach the game; how we get pressure on the ball; keep the ball, move the ball and make them work. It's really on us. We are well aware of their strengths, but it's on what we do, I feel.” Swans fans have once again gone above and beyond to get to this evenings game, the real highlight this week is their unwavering support for the club.
