Darling new contract isn’t over yet PLUS latest news on transfer links and Melker signs
Friday, 31st Jan 2025 13:24 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

It seems that Swansea City have now managed to move themselves into a position they ‘purported’ to be in four weeks ago. We have been told that there are numerous players that the club are negotiating for over this weekend and Monday.

First off Melker Widel the Swedish U21 international is going to complete his formalities today by 2pm. He will then become a Swansea City player. He will then be loaned back to AaB for the rest of their domestic season. We covered all the intricacies yesterday on that below.

⚽️ Melker and AaB

Melker is in the bag and his club expect him back in Marbella for their game against Seattle Sounders tomorrow. That’s it on him for now.

The Swans have confirmed they have made a bid for twenty three year old Peterborough defensive midfielder, Hector Kyprianou. His contract is up at the end of the season, but Swans fans have to remember they will be in dialogue with Posh owner, Darragh MacAnthony. A shrewd businessman if there ever was one. Hector joined Peterborough for an unconfirmed five hundred thousand pounds in July 2022. The add ons etc are not known if they are inclusive in this fee. However, MacAnthony will be holding out to recover as much of that figure as he can. There is also a sell on for the players old club, yes them again, Leyton Orient. The interesting thing with Hector is he has already played as a centre back so he is most certainly in the utility player mould. A Cyprus international to boot this looks a clever move by the Swans. It isn’t speculation a bid has gone in.

When we first heard of a link between Peterborough and Swansea with a player back last year we thought and many did (it was it only hope) it was Kwame Poku. We reported on a Peterborough link back in December.

⚽️ Poku ?

Still looking for pace the Swans have been linked with Southampton youngster, eighteen year old Samuel Amo-Ameyaw. The player is available for a loan but has featured for Southampton this season against Newcastle and Aston Villa. He has spent some time on the bench and it’s clear Southampton want him to get more experience. Another player with the skills base to play across the midfield on both left and right wings he sounds ideal on paper. However the conversation we have had today pointed us towards Charles Sagoe Jr who came to the Swans last season. He was not up to Championship football whatsoever, but this latest link looks far more promising. Basically there hasn't been time to assess Samuel entirely, so there is a degree of chance attached to this.

What we can say is that at this moment in time no bid has been made, and Samuel is just a part of a bigger list which was depleted by one this morning with the transfer of Luke Cundle from Wolves to Millwall.

⚽️ Now, Harry Darling.
Talking this morning to a few contacts we have been told that Harry Darling leaving Swansea in the summer isn’t as nailed on as it was first thought. Regardless of what is or has been reported we have always maintained the saga is not over. Matt Grimes self imposed transfer has given a bit of financial leeway with Grimes now off the salary bill. Grimes leaving has freed up in excess of a million pounds in outgoings, in fact well over two million overall. We are now being told he will be engaged again on a new contract. When that is will be is a guess but Chris Wilder at Sheffield United is desperate for a centre back with Harry Soutter out for the season. Of course Harry Darling fits the bill perfectly. Quite sensibly we have been informed that a potential move now could bring Premier League football for him next season. Or of course if Sheffield United do go up and don’t sign him now, will they want him in the summer ?

That’s the catch 22 at this time of the season, but we can very much cinfirm Darling will be spoken to. However slim a chance it is now news Darling isn’t off the menu. And one other player not to forget as we reported Joe Low is a player Coleman wants to sign and is determined to do so. That also isn’t off the menu just yet for this window. Wycombe are very reluctant to let Low go but as we all know (despite some weird contractual stuff) he wants to come to Swansea.

See my earlier thread that the Grimes money of the wage bill could allow for a better offer for Darling.
