Swansea City : Harry Darling latest plus Transfer News
Sunday, 5th Jan 2025 08:00 by Keith Haynes

It comes as no surprise that clubs are now tracking Harry Darling, in one case a club that could easily double his salary.

Darren Witcoop who has very decent sources in the football world has already mentioned Bristol City and Birmingham City. However, there are a few more. Not the most glamorous of clubs but the Birmingham project is being backed by big money from Tom Wagner primarily, there are other income streams though. They haven’t hung around in splashing the cash this season, and could well come up to the Championship for next season. They will encourage Harry Darling with far more money than the Swans could even dream about offering.

It’s strange though that very few people are screaming ‘prove it’ at Witcoop. People will pick their battles, and when they meet with resistance or a firm response they become the victim. That’s what makes this whole business a delight to be in.

Bristol City were definitely interested in Darling in the summer, what was looked at as a derisory offer was turned down. Then previous majority shareholders Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan were still making financial decisions at the club then and there was little finance spare, so we suppose that we should be glad they didn’t sell off Harry then. They were never going to give a decent contract to Harry when they were negotiating their leaving. The chance to renew Darling’s contract was lost in the summer, the offer was awful. Again because the club was in dialogue to get rid of Levien and Kaplan. Since Andrew Coleman has had more flexibility we do know he has had talks with Harry Darling’s representatives. A formal offer was made which most Swansea fans on the New Years Day were told from many sources he could well sign.

Even Luke Williams is on record stating that recent events may well have affected Harry Darling.

It’s almost as if Harry is destined to leave. However, it is all simply down to money, unlike Ben Cabango who has ties with the Swans for many years, Harry will find leaving the club far easier. The only thing we can be assured of is that clubs do have extensive lists of players throughout the year. And it’s our bet that the strongest clubs in the division will have Harry’s name on them. For every Bristol City there will be a Sheffield United or Burnley.

The Swans incoming business has been slow but we can expect news this week on where the Swans are looking. Joe Low, the Wycombe centre back remains a target. Andrew Coleman is leading that deal and wants him in at the Swans. Wycombe want in the region of £750,000. The mainstream media have stated that Richard Kone isn’t any longer someone the Swans would like. However his story is incredible. We wrote on him last week.

Then there’s the Swedish player who has been on the radar for a while.

⚽️ Noel Milleskog

Then of course with football fatigue now washed away there is yesterday’s match report.

If Harry goes then so be it and all the best to him.
In fairness he has not downed tools or been in any way less than committed.
I for one will be disappointed to see him leave but it happens all the time.
I do hope he can be persuaded to stay though
