Low bid rejected : The Swans will press on plus Kwame Poku Monday, 30th Dec 2024 10:36 by Liam Walters Apologies this report should have gone on this morning at 7am. Two players are being linked with Swansea City this morning, one far more definite than the other. Even before the January transfer window kicks in clubs are busying themselves with agreements and bids for players across the country. The first piece of information comes from a fairly reliable source, Peter O’Rourke on Twitter who has been in the prediction league for almost every club for many years. He reports the Swans have made a bid for defender Joe Low to his current club, Wycombe Wanderers. The Cardiff born Wales international youth player has been attracting attention over the early part of this season, not least as he is a big part of the Wycombe defence. That defence has seen the Chairboys hit the top of the League One table this season as they battle it out with Wrexham and Birmingham City for promotion to the Championship. Joe’s father is ex Cardiff City player, Josh Low. He has played in all of his sides league games this season and completed every one as well. Add to that his four goals from a defensive position and you can begin to realise his potential at just twenty two years of age. All we have on this is that the Swans have been in dialogue with Wycombe for a while and decided after these talks a bid should be made. News coming out of the club is that two players are already agreed as signed for the Swans, but Low, as we report this morning is not one of them. (Sources) That indicates to us that early business is the Swans aim. We still believe up to four players are going to come in from a well researched and very long list, but of course not everything is cast in stone. Above : Joe Low in action yesterday against Charlton Athletic We have learned early this morning that bids from the Swans have been rejected, believed to be around £250,000, but the Swans have not been put off by these rejections. We also have to wonder if Swans head coach, Luke Williams and his bizarre comments this weekend will affect any of those January pre planned moves ? He hardly covered himself in glory post match yesterday evening. And that won’t please the new Swans investors nor one of his closest supporters, Chairman, Andrew Coleman. No doubt we will see the fall out from that this week. The Swans have held Peterborough United midfielder, Kwame Poku. (23) in high regard this season. The issue is a number of clubs feel the same. Not only that, club owner, Darragh MacAnthony is talking really steep numbers to get his services. He believes that any transfer fee if not agreed will lead to a tribunal. “They’ll look at the offers we’ve had. So we’ll be able to straight away go into the tribunal and show them offers from six months ago that were of the value of three-and-three, £3million up front and £3million in add-ons” On Luton Town’s bid in the summer MacAnthony stated, “It was a good bid, one in the millions, but at that stage we just told them we weren’t selling Kwame. We are quite relaxed about Kwame, and he has been as good as gold about everything, because he will still be under 24 when his contract ends so we would still get a fee for him. I’d expect to get bids similar to the ones we have already had.” Poku’s contract runs out at the end of this season. For us that will not only price the Swans out of anything more than interest, it will price out the majority of clubs in the Championship. Blackburn Rovers have been cited as interested and we know from our own talks with sources Poku’s name has come up and research has been done on the player. Sounds like a nice to have for us. He has bagged nearly one goal in four games for the Posh despite his midfield position and pretty poor start when joining from Colchester United in 2021. We can’t see this coming to fruition in the coming month. Or in any month on those numbers, unless of course MacAnthony wakes up, having said that he is a shrewd businessman and he follows the Indy.
