Swansea City v Luton Town : The Hatters of ego town visit the Swansea.Com
Saturday, 28th Dec 2024 08:00 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes (endorsed)

Luton Town are the visitors to the Swansea.com tomorrow in a quick turnaround after the3-0 Boxing Day victory against Queens Park Rangers. The Swans are looking for another home win to put more emphasis on their credentials as an ever improving team.

That said, we can’t take the win on Thursday for granted, we have seen some real dramatic changes in form this season. Hopefully that won’t be a constant, there is a team in there and head coach, Luke Williams has done well with what he has.

Our site owner wrote a few truths yesterday on that situation.

⚽️ Bit part players ?

However, today we look towards tomorrow and Luton Town at home, the game kicks off at 3pm. There’s no doubting that Liam Cullen is having the best season of his career, and coupled with Wales he just cannot stop smiling. It’s pretty certain that other clubs will be looking at him, but Liam we know for a fact isn’t keen to move from Swansea. In fact it would take a massive offer and huge salary upgrade for Liam to consider leaving his boyhood club. What do we think ? Unless something really silly comes in during January or next summer, and Liam continues to perform until the end of the season, the Swans will offer him an improved contract. Big shout ? Not if his season ends as it is going at this moment in time. Honestly if his form continues it’s a no brainer. No longer are we seeing a good player one game in five or six, Liam now has a belief and a consistency. His two goals and assist made him man of the match on Boxing day.

Our visitors have had a struggle this season and head coach, Rob Edwards is potentially only in his role still as he has a lot of credit in the bank from his recent success at the club. Premier League etc … Luton last played the Swans on Saturday December 7th, the day the storms broke but still 1,300 Swans fans made it to Kenilworth Road. It was a catalyst for one guy on Twitter. That was the away game as well that majority Swans owner, Jason Cohen paid for the taxi outlay after some Swans fans had their train cancelled, and were desperate to get to the game. After hearing of their dedication he covered their £900 costs. It was a magnificent effort by the Jack Army and we can reassure you Luton Town won’t match that in any shape or form tomorrow. They are fans of a club though that will highlight the away followings of others in some desire to win some kudos. Laughable really when you see their geographical location. Their ground holds a capacity of 12,000 …

One of their podcasts is so far from the truth it makes their bigger rivals up the road in Watford look world beaters, yes far from the truth.

Luton Town have won one game away this season, away at Millwall 1-0. They gained a point at Portsmouth to give them four points on their travels to date. It is their home form that has kept them above the relegation zone, and of course many will say the Swans should have taken all the points on December 7th. A wonderful Matt Grimes strike (below) drew the Swans level in that game, Elijah Adebayo putting the home side ahead in the first half. Luton keeper Kaminski saved the Hatters that day as the Swans peppered his goal with twenty shots. Post match Swans head coach, Luke Williams said, "I've got no complaints about the performance, I think the players were excellent. Because we play very close and a lot of passes on the ground, I think it helped us to not be affected too much by conditions in that way and the game ebbed and flowed a bit. Overall I thought we had the majority of the control of the game, it felt to me. It's a tough opposition, particularly here, they're very good. I think he (Kaminski) made nine saves and look, that's his job and he did it to a very high level today. So yes I think he helped them a lot, he had a really good performance, but he's entitled to do it, that's his main role."

Amongst other games this season that will be seen as two points dropped, but any performance along the lines of Boxing Day by the Swans will leave Luton wanting for sure. There has to be some form of consistency now as the second half of the Championship season starts. We make no excuses for our partisan attitude in support of our club, and as our regular readers know, we say it as we see it.

⚽️ Luton Town : A look at the Hatters.

It’s very much the case that Luton Town are just about surviving in the Championship based on their home form. Their away form is terrible. It seems their tight and compact ground is paying dividends in retaining Championship football at this moment in time. For a team that has come down from the Premier League this isn’t a normal situation, generally sides who come down are at least challenging in the top ten. It is unusual. But then …

Post Luton’s last game on Boxing Day, a loss to Bristol City away, head coach Edwards stated, “The game today was a typical example, especially in the Championship, of a real game of fine margins. There was nothing in it, they stuck one in the top corner from 20-odd yards on the angle and we weren’t quiet able to capitalise on a couple of chances that we did create and we end up losing. We did create two really good chances – Carlton’s header and Cauley’s one as well late on, but there was nothing in it.”

Yes, that’s how it works Rob, the team that scores more goals wins the game. Swansea City would be top of the the league if we came up with those sort of excuses. Or maybe we do ? Either way if you are looking for integrity in a league like the Championship the table cannot lie to you, it’s as clear as that. Rob then, bless him started on about a long drive home to Luton from Bristol. Some clubs haven’t got a clue and are far removed from the reality some fans face week in week out. A two hour drive also weeding itself into his excuse book.

Swansea City are the favourites tomorrow, even amongst Luton followers which pretty much sums up that Premier League attitude which took a few seasons to get rid of at the Swans. Some would say that it still remains with some. This game is a wonderful opportunity for the Swans to press on to the second half of the season and bar any transfer news today, we will see you tomorrow morning for our match day build up.

Thanks as ever for your support.

Mad as Hatters ! Too bloody right.
