Swansea City : Total domination of the South Wales derby
Wednesday, 21st Aug 2024 09:00 by Swansea Independent

The Swans have dominated this fixture for a number of years, that cannot be argued with, so we are looking back at some of those great victories on the Indy today. We will include of course the annihilation season of 2021/22 when seven goals were knocked into the Cardiff net with no reply. The first ever double recorded in the history of this fixture.

We could start there but there’s a lot to get through, so much so we will revisit this topic again before Sunday. Victories against the Bluebirds are not unusual, so let’s look back to 2014 first and that 3-0 victory in the Premier League. That was during the early reign of Garry Monk who had somehow enabled himself to be manager of the Swans, his first appointment. He had most of Michael Laudrup’s side to play with after the superb League Cup Final win, which in turn saw the Swans really test the best of the qualifiers in the Europa League.

⚽️ That 2021/22 season.

The first ever double.

The Swans scored three goals at home with no reply. And another four away with no return in both games. In this highlight reel Jamie Paterson scores one and assists two in the game at the Liberty in Oct 2021.

Then in April 2022 the thrashing that surely many Cardiff followers will remember for the rest of their lives. Two goals from Obafemi, one from Hannes Wolf 🇫🇷 and a cracker from Ben Cabango sealed the deal.

The very same thing happened a season later with another double celebrated in spectacular style away, Ben Cabango getting a last gasp goal to win the game 2-3. Earlier on in the season the Swans eased themselves towards the history books even further with a 2-0 win.

The last time Cardiff City scored away against the Swans in front of fans was in 2011 in the Championship. That’s fourteen years ago.

We will continue this series on Thursday.
