Swansea City : Keeper discussions already completed ?
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2024 14:29 by Liam Walters

Swansea City are very much in the market for a new keeper this month. We can confirm that talks on Lawrence Vigouroux with his club Burnley have reached a near conclusion. In fact one source states they are done already. The Swans have spoken to the Clarets regards both a loan and a permanent move.

A goalkeeper with over 400 appearances, but many at reserve or lower league level could be the answer for the Swans for the coming season.

This afternoons news will please Swansea supporters, the keeper is thirty and hasn’t seen that much action in recent seasons. His promising start with Liverpool in the U21 side saw a loan to Swindon which ensured a permanent move in 2016. Last year after signing from Leyton Orient on a free transfer, a signing on fee of around £300,000 was agreed (sourced)

He enjoyed a good spell at Leyton Orient, but is untested at Championship level. When we first heard of Vigouroux we felt it could be a ruse to give Brighton a kick regards Carl Rushworth. However, that option is one the Swans cannot wait for with sources stating he wouldn’t be guaranteed a move until four games into the Championship season. That was an impossible situation for Swansea City, and after reflecting on this the club moved for Vigouroux at the end of last week.

The big question on peoples minds will be the cost of a permanent move, we spoke to a journalist contact in the north west this afternoon and she believes that his price for a permanent move will be low. As low as £400,000, possibly even a lot less. However, having signed on a free transfer only last year and with two years to run on his contract there will be sums of money involved. That’s achievable for the Swans which definitely firms up the permanent deal speculation. The former Chile U20 international will fit into the new Swans pay structure which is bringing down all new signings and salaries a considerable amount over the past year.

It’s clear at this time that Vigouroux is not in Burnley’s plans with no appearances since he signed his deal. His value is low, and his salary demands could be met. If this comes to fruition over the next few days then it’s another tick in the box for first team players desperately needed for Swansea City.

We also believe the shopping isn’t over yet with four new faces required to make competition greater for first team selection. This in turn will be positive for the Swans going into the start of this Championship season. Remember this is Swansea and we always urge caution on any move involving the current majority ownership. It’s another credible news story based on people we can trust, we just now need to get the ink dry and Lawrence is a Jack !

Leyton Orient reel.

For the O’s 133 games, 54 clean sheets. 24 in the 2022/23 season.
