Swansea City : Adama Sidibeh in profile
Sunday, 9th Jun 2024 11:50 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

He’s a very new name in Scottish football, but the St Johnstone player has allegedly emerged as a target for the Swans this summer. The player who is now twenty five was snapped up from non league Warrington Rylands in January by the Saints and is beginning to enjoy life in Perth.

Adama’s story goes well beyond Warrington. His career started at AFC Blackpool where he first found goalscoring a breeze. Warrington signed him in July 2023 from Cheadle Heath Nomads where again he found the net and the step up with no real difficulty. From there his impact at Warrington got him recognition from St Johnstone bagging fifteen goals up until the January transfer window this year. There will be doubts from any fanbase on a player like Adama, his sudden rise is commendable but with just fifteen appearances for the Saints and five goals since he joined the club there will be huge question marks.

We must also realise he has only been in the UK for around three years.

The main one for a club like the Swans will be his experience and ability to play in the first team. The suggested transfer fee of 400 - 600k indicates a first team squad member, but plans for Jerry Yates and a Mykola next season haven’t been revealed. Adama isn’t the biggest centre forward around, at 5’8” - and of slight build he relies on pace and instinct to get him in to dangerous positions. He has had a few injuries in his first few months in Scotland but it seems he has taken those knocks well and hasn’t missed games as a result.

As Adama explained to the St Johnstone website this is a very new experience for him.

For a player to be noticed after such a short time in the top league in Scotland by so many sides in England does reveal a latecomer with some ability. Whether these types of player are just club inquiries, a chat with an agent, an agent getting busy on his behalf or just a long list of probables and possibles the news is out there for sure. The Swans are unlikely to go further than his stated price as Adama would be a big risk, however the player is prominent on many clubs radar. Last time out he scored for Gambia against the Seychelles, a side which included one Mo Barrow and seems to be taking to the steps upwards he has made quite easily. This is something clubs will recognise.

We will however bring you as many facts in our ‘profile series’ as we can. That’s a certainty. News of bids are slightly inaccurate, there may well be conversations but the transfer window doesn’t open for five more days. Any fee’s suggested would be as a result of leaks from the players side, which will add some value to this latest news. The fact the Swans are being linked to numerous players in the goalscoring department isn’t a surprise, there most certainly needs more firepower in next seasons squad, however will they risk up to half a million pounds on a player like Adama ? His passing and crossing needs a lot of work and his assists as well.

Are the Swans ready and willing - That’s the key question.
