Tuesday, 3rd Oct 2023 10:15 by @Cornish67David

Norwich boss David Wagner has discussed his sides injuries and focuses on the trip to Swansea tomorrow evening. The Canaries are in seventh position in the Championship with performances of late not convincing, however Wagner is positive.

Norwich City’s latest dilemmas.

* Borja Sainz ankle injury 'not serious'. Still assessing but not ruled out of Swansea trip. Went off after 26 minutes of Sunday's development game at Carrow Road. Only back in the fold after a pre-season ankle injury

* Wagner indicated no other fitness concerns from those on duty against Birmingham on Saturday.

* Marcelino Nunez (ankle) will return to training this week but not in contention for Swansea.

* Jacob Sorensen (pelvis) returned to training recently. Unlikely to be involved this side of the upcoming October international break.

* Ashley Barnes (knee) ruled out until after the following international break in November. But no surgery required.

* Josh Sargent (ankle) underwent surgery on Sept 4. Was pictured on crutches at the Birmingham game. Christmas, early Jan timescale.

* Grant Hanley (Achilles) is a longer term absentee.

Wagner on Sainz : "He got a knock on his ankle. Luckily, it is not a serious injury but it's quite painful and a little bit swollen. We will see if he can make it for the Swansea game. It isn't a serious injury and it shouldn't take too long for him to come back. He will be back in training soon”

Danny Bath is expected to be included in the match day squad.

The Swans
Like Norwich the Swans have injuries across the board with Nathan Wood the real hit on the Swansea City squad. Kristian Pedersen is out for tomorrow nights game and Jerry Yates will be further assessed today but his two dead legs from Saturday could rule him out of this fixture. Liam Walsh (below) turned out for the under 21 side on Monday evening in a 4-4 draw with Watford. Talking of his latest comeback Liam is extremely happy to be back involved. “It was good for me to get those minutes under my belt, obviously it has been a frustrating time not being able to help the team over the first part of the season,” he said. It’s hard working your way back after another injury, but I am as frustrated as anyone as I want to be out on the pitch helping the team. I am trying my hardest to get back to full fitness, so get a few minutes for the under-21s was really good. Hopefully I can push on now to help the team. It was great to be in the squad for the Millwall game at the weekend, I am feeling fine, and I would love to be able to get some minutes against Norwich or Plymouth. I want to be out there, that’s the job as a footballer, to be out there working hard and playing on a Saturday, I feel as the season is going on, we are getting better as a team and I want to be out there helping.”

Liam has featured for the Swans on only twelve occasions in the league since joining the club over two years ago. His list of injuries have kept him out of team selection on numerous occasions. The issue for Liam is all his injuries keep him out for very long periods and contain long return to fitness plans. Now twenty six and with so few professional games under his belt ( less than eighty league appearances in his career ) Liam and Swans fans will be hoping for a big change in fortunes.

Michael Duff will give a more in-depth update later today.
