Significant development for Joel Piroe at Swansea City ? Wednesday, 19th Jul 2023 11:38 by Keith Haynes Joel Piroe’s future at Swansea City is ‘fast approaching’ a significant development we are told this afternoon. There has been a lot of speculation regards his future at Swansea City, but it seems now we could see some fresh news soon. Of course the question was asked if this latest development is Piroe leaving the Swans, and we get the feeling that is the position, but of course there could be a few other situations opening up. Whatever the outcome we can guarantee that his future is a very positive one, so let’s have a look at the variety of outcomes of this latest news. 1. Joel Piroe will leave the club this summer, however for this to happen there has to be some ‘significant’ talks regards this. We have been told that yes there have been more than a few discreet contacts with Swansea City, but this is to establish the Swans asking price and availability this summer. We have heard of course the numerous clubs who are rumoured to be involved, but that information isn’t forthcoming. You can expect there to be one or two other clubs who are monitoring this as well. As we all know agents talk, but in this case Joel Piroe’s father is the firewall to reach his son, so it’s going to be far more difficult to gauge. 2. Joel decides he will stay at Swansea City for one more year, and based on that the Swans will have to go along with that, and if no new contract is agreed then he walks as a free agent. There are some significant rulings on this such as a player with six months or less remaining on an existing contract for players aged twenty three or older, they are free to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement. That could happen in January or in the summer. The positive here is the Swans get to keep Piroe for another season, and that’s as ‘significant’ a development as any transfer this summer. Swans fans will be split on this but if the club have a successful season, and let’s be extra positive here, if they go up Joel will most certainly be offered a new contract as a Premier League player. That then becomes a quandary for him. 3. He decides to sign a new contract ! There are many issues with this. The primary one are his salary demands. To agree to paying that amount a money per week for his services in a new contract could possibly alienate other first team players. However, for us you get what you pay for, and with respect to the bulk of the Swans squad they don’t have Piroe’s saleable value. To see him and Jerry Yates attack the Championship this season would most certainly terrify defences across the division, and increase the Swans chances of promotion. That’s a dilemma for the majority owners at the club. Stick or twist ? If he were to stay and the dream return happened under a new contract Piroe’s value would rocket way above the speculated base of twelve million pounds. It could be club changing. We see this latest information as also significant, and the decision to report this affects neither the club nor the player. In fact Joel bar one slip at the start of the season Russell Martin too over at Swansea has been the consummate professional. He has diligently taken on what has been required of him and this summer will receive the rewards he deserves for that hard work.
