Southampton will appoint Russell Martin as their new manager along with four of Swansea City’s backroom staff regardless of their discussions to compensate the Swans, which is currently under negotiation.

Alan Nixon who goes by the hand of Reluctant Nico on Twitter has divulged this latest information which has baffled many following this saga over the last two and a half weeks. The Swans claim that as the Saints ‘are or were’ a Premier League club when their manager was approached they should be compensated at a higher level as per Martin’s contract. Simple enough. However, it now seems it’s more of a case of when Southampton become an ‘official’ championship club, and that’s not clear. When they do they will announce Russell Martin and his staff as employees at St.Mary’s.

This clearly indicates Martin and his staff will walk out of the club irrespective of their contract status if this becomes the option.

Both clubs have had some discussions recently, but nowhere near the amount the mainstream media would have you believe. And we hear not until last week, and late on at that.

Five members of staff breaching contracts is what this is turning out to be. Again, we don’t believe it will come to that as Martin is now prepared to walk out on Swansea and let the clubs scrap it out. What isn’t clear is how far he has gone in agreeing the players he wants to bring in when he is appointed, and indeed ‘ who ‘ he wants from Swansea City. Obviously that’s not cast in stone, but it’s how Martin does business with new employers, as he did with Flynn Downes coming to the Swans in 2021. You can be rest assured there will be at least two who he would favour. Whether he gets them or not is another thing. If Southampton are willing for this to become a long drawn out affair over five hundred thousand pounds then the millions it will cost for the likes of Matt Grimes and Joel Piroe is way beyond their financial ability.
