Russell Martin & Neil Warnock both cautious pending tomorrows big game
Friday, 14th Apr 2023 14:17 by Swansea Independent

Neil Warnock paid numerous compliments to Swansea City and Russell Martin amidst a tremendous run of results since his appointment at the Terriers. Warnock admits his side aren’t good enough to play in the way the Swans do and admits he has to keep a close eye on his players going in to this game.

Despite that Huddersfield Town have been mightily impressive since Warnock’s arrival and you can be rest assured he will be looking to take something from this game. We could use the term ‘by hook or by crook’ Warnock has a history of explosive moments throughout his near sixty year football career, not least as a manager. He even tried to influence Swansea matches when Steve Cooper was in charge when a few penalties looked to have gone Swansea’s way, and he wasn’t even involved in those games.

The greeting he will get from another expected bumper crowd will most certainly be passionate. In his interview the Terriers man anger also referenced the excellent atmosphere Swansea generate for home games.

His pre match observations are below.

Russell Martin on the other hand is still in ‘prove yourself’ limbo with five games to go before the season ends. He too has had an inspiring run of wins and performances and despite almost total support amongst the fanbase there are still some vociferous efforts to unsettle him. Martin has admitted he ‘lost it’ for a period of time when results went awry and believes this has been one of the biggest tests of his career. He also stated it will make him a better manager / head coach.

His pre match observations are below.

This is a huge test for Russell Martin. Generally this is around the time after a good run of results that then falters and his teams slip back in to default mode. Drawing games, defensive issues and conceding goals they really shouldn’t do has to be avoided at all costs. If he can navigate his side through the next two home games. Huddersfield tomorrow ( 3pm ) and Preston on Wednesday evening ( 7.45pm ) there will surely be further proof his strategy for the club is most certainly beginning to work.
