Out of favour Swansea City attacking midfielder Jamie Paterson is still of interest to numerous clubs this January. Russell Martin has made it known the player can leave the club but despite a lot of interest, no bid as of yet has been made. And there’s a preferred bidder now ready to make a move.

Clubs are being prudent, and in the example of Paterson his hometown club Coventry City are being patient whilst keeping tabs on the player. There is a solid reason why as well, well away from the financial implications of a player deal far more important matters have been resolved. The sky blues announced their new executive chairman late on Tuesday, Doug King, also CEO of Yelo Enterprises is the new man at the helm and that most certainly has held up transfer business. Gaining the rubber stamp has taken time.

Replacing Tim Fisher, Tuesdays announcement was welcomed by the vast majority of Coventry fans, gaining EFL clearance in just over six weeks was the main hurdle for King but it seems now it’s full steam ahead. King has invested hugely in the area, and not just in football. He took over as CEO of Yelo Enterprises in 2020 but maybe Coventry supporters should also look at his risk potential, he is a majority owner at hedge fund RCMA Capital LLP. That said his eighty five percent majority ownership has cleared any debt the midlands club had.

All this may seem at odds with the transfer window, but now King is firmly in place and able to confirm day to day financial dealings at Coventry a move for Paterson is likely. King will most certainly want to get off to positive start with everyone at the CBS arena, and a deal for Paterson, albeit not a huge fee will go down well. Coventry will also pay more than he is in now for his services, the only stumbling block will be the length of his contrast, Paterson will want a three year deal and Coventry we understand would prefer two.

King has already excited the area by stating. “Already I have been struck by the enthusiasm of Sky Blues fans, with many personally wishing me well and I thank them for those sentiments. I am looking forward to the future of this great club and what we can achieve together.” A deal for Paterson would go down well with Sky Blues followers and we expect something from them in the coming days now their immediate future is known.

Manager Mark Robins has already stated he see’s Paterson as a quality player having tried to sign him on two occasions in the past at other clubs.
