Wales must understand the laws of Qatar and how to behave !
Tuesday, 20th Sep 2022 15:22 by Keith Haynes

There’s very little news about on the Cymru national side going in to their final must win games this week against Belgium away and Poland at home in the nations league. As expected, and despite losing their last game 4-0 at home to Hungary, England are all over the sports news even on the day the queen was buried. It’s a constant moan for followers of the national side as it is for N.Ireland and Scotland.

Despite that you can read the latest and more interesting news stories on the Wales international squad this week here on Swansea Independent, the only swans website that covers the international side in depth and without favour as opposed to other news outlets. For now let’s catch up with the World Cup feel around the Cymru squad.

It’s been an interesting week already with Rob Page playing at diplomacy after earning a new four year contract leading up to the next World Cup. Speaking of his recent trip to Qatar he said “It was forty four centigrade, it was crazy hot, and thankfully it's not going to be that in November”

Page has praised the facilities in Qatar following his trip to the country with a Wales delegation in July '’They've done their best to accommodate that. I went to the stadium where we play our three games and it is exceptional.'They've put air conditioning units all around the pitch, I could feel it from where I was stood” Okay, lovely to hear that you can feel the air conditioning, and to be honest if FIFA weren’t so ‘choosy’ in their choice of host then maybe daft things like air con pitch side and in training grounds wouldn’t have been necessary ?

“I'm not so sure the players will feel it ( the air con ) from the middle of the pitch, and certainly our supporters won't from the top of the stand. 'I'm really pleased with the hotel and the training facilities are outstanding, being out there made us look forward to it even more. It's not cheap to get there and I feel for the supporters because I want them to have that great experience. But we haven't been at a World Cup for a long time, and I believe they will get to Qatar “

On the way he wants his players to behave and learn about the environment he was leading them in to in November he said. 'It's important we respect their culture when we get out there. We don't want to unintentionally upset anyone. We have to understand what we're going into, what to do and what not to do “ That’s wise leadership but a lack of respect in any country can lead a person in to a spot of bother. Maybe just a lesson on good behaviour and respect would work ? Not that the Qatar government have a track record in respect, especially for individuals wanting to lead their lives in their way without bothering others. Same-sex sexual activity is prohibited under the Penal Code 2004, which criminalises acts of ‘sodomy’ and ‘sexual intercourse’ between people of the same sex. These provisions carry a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment. Both men and women are criminalised under this law. And Qatar is considered one of the more lenient countries under sharia law.

We will also cover some of the costs involved for followers of Wales in this years World Cup later in this series of reports on Wales and the World Cup. We intend to have as much fan and team information as possible so you can trust us when you visit these pages for interesting and informative articles and reports.
