Wales are through - The night in pictures
Friday, 25th Mar 2022 08:00 by @Cornish67David

Wales were the better side last night in a thrilling game of football in Cardiff. The red wall dominated the atmosphere and sang their national side to victory in this World Cup qualifier. It may be by cause rather than planning but Wales are in the World Cup finals draw in April. If they win the play off final against Ukraine or Scotland, 1958 at last, can be put to bed as the last time this wonderful nation was at the World Cup finals.

Cardiff was absolutely bouncing last night before the gam and during it you would never have thought noise like it could be produced by the human voice. It was the most incredible football atmosphere I have witnessed in all my time watching this beautiful game. And it was just that last night.

The red wall produced one of the most passionate and loudest renditions of the Weslh national anthem ever heard.

The free kick that for Wales going from Gareth Bale has already been heralded as the best goal ever scored at the stadium in Cardiff.

Aaron Ramsey didn’t have one of his better games but he worked all through the evening, again remarkably fit for the ninety minutes after being bugged by injuries at Glasgow Rangers.

Wales had the best chances to increase their lead, despite one Austrian shot hitting the bar.

The second goal from Bale is the clincher which takes Wales through to the World Cup play off final.

From numbers one to eleven Wales deserved his win

Unlucky for Ben Davies as his block attempt deflects in to his own net to make it 2-1. This did make Wales look a bit shaky for five minutes after that but in the end 2-1 to Wales was all that mattered.

Dan James had several very decent chances to score on the night.

That’s it, it’s done, Wales are through.

It was a master class in finishing from Gareth Bale.

And of course a quick word in a team mates ear about last Sunday. “Sorry I couldn’t make it,I had a bad back mate”
