Swansea City assistant manager Luke Williams future no longer a mystery
Friday, 18th Feb 2022 18:31 by @Cornish67David

He has been missing for over a week from Swansea City’s training ground, and his absence from the dug out at last weeks game was immediately noticed by many. But now it seems the mystery is solved.

Speaking on Friday last week Russell Martin mentioned his testing week ‘personally’ during a hard and tricky few days. That was probably the first clue that all was not well with Luke Williams. He was also meant to be with the swans manager and Matt Gill at last Saturday’s rugby international between Wales and Scotland.

This week only Matt Gill and Russell Martin were evident at all training sessions and Williams departure after a two and a half year professional relationship with them is over. His only shot at management was at Swindon Town where his tenure ended by mutual agreement after relegation to league two in 2017. He soon found employment at Bristol City with the under 23 side before his time working with Russell Martin.

The reasoning behind his departure isn’t known but it’s safe to say the immediacy of his leaving last week was not in any plans that Russell Martin had for the rest of this season. You don’t plan a shake up of your staff at this point of the season, and especially when the friendship between the coaching team was as strong as it was.

Whatever the ‘personal reasons’ are Williams has gone, and there won’t be any coming back.
