Russell Martin confirms Ethan Laird replacement is on his way UPDATED **
Wednesday, 12th Jan 2022 13:06 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City boss Russell Martin has confirmed that a replacement for Ethan Laird, after his shock recall to Manchester United, and then money influenced loan to Bournemouth is hopeful this week. Looking comfortable speaking to Sky Sports News this afternoon Martin brought together his plans so far in an update.

He didn’t mention Liam Cullen but stated ‘ We have much more going on in the background which will happen over the next few weeks we hope’ The first news on Ethan Lairds replacement is just what swans fans want to hear. We believe it’s Manchester City’s Josh Wilson-Esbrand, a young defender who has been linked with the swans for five weeks now. Of course the only thing which could say this isn’t entirely right is that Josh Wilson-Esbrand likes to play his football on the left not the right. We will wait and see.

The other option is Cyrus Christie who is pretty much out of favour at Fulham. His contract expires in June 2022 and if that would be a permanent move his salary expectations would have to be very much reduced. He hasn’t played any football of note this season and spent a season at Nottingham Forest before that. Very much a similar player to Jake Bidwell his salary demands have put off several clubs, and he turned down Cardiff City yesterday which tells us he could be in his way.

These updates are crucial we know to those who are keen to keep abreast of Swansea City matters, and we do our best to bring as much to you as we can each day.
