Darren Ferguson believes his Peterborough side can upset Swansea City
Friday, 29th Oct 2021 08:31 by Keith Haynes

Never short on confidence, and looking at Peterborough United’s form in the championship since promotion you can’t argue with their current manager believing they can take all the points from tomorrows game at the Swansea.Com stadium.

Two games away from five hundred managerial matches as a football manager, Ferguson is extremely upbeat his side can tame the Swans in this championship clash. Speaking yesterday to the Peterborough Telegraph, Ferguson identified Swansea City’s weaknesses. “Russell’s sides play in a very particular way,” Ferguson said. “Swansea are playing exactly like Mk Dons played under him last season. It’s a very attractive, expansive way of playing, but they can also be very open and we can certainly exploit that. We will need to be as good in transition as we were against QPR last week, but if we look after the ball when we get it we can certainly hurt them. They are a good side though. They have had an okay start this season, but we have more confidence about us after winning our last two games.”

Ferguson is right, there are openings presented to all opposition by the swans in every game they play, the obvious routes to goal via Jake Bidwell or Ryan Manning are repetitive but can prove extremely lucrative. On the other side of the pitch Ethan Laird is gaining confidence and if given the ball in front of him he has no match for pace in this division. Ferguson went on to say his side are in a very good place and there are no reasons why they can’t make a huge impact on tomorrow’s game.

The posh are very similar to Birmingham City in a lot of ways, they are quick and break with purpose, they are also far more stronger and physical on the ball than Swansea City. This is a huge warning to Russell Martin and his coaching team, Peterborough will come to Swansea with a drive and sense of belief that if not taken seriously will most certainly disrupt Martin’s game plan.

After 2-1 wins against Hull and QPR, Posh are seeking a third win on the spin at Championship level for just the third time in the club’s history. Ferguson expects to have forward players Jonson Clarke-Harris and Kwame Poku back in his matchday squad at Swansea. Clarke-Harris has completed a four-game suspension, while Poku has recovered from a minor complaint. Neither is expected to break into the starting line-up.
