Saints Again Linked With Tottenham Hotspur Defender Thursday, 22nd Dec 2016 20:27 The rumours have been around for a couple of months, but with doubt over the future of Jose Fonte and the transfer window about to open, they are starting to resurface.
Saints are being linked with Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer, the Austrian central defender has never really established himself at White Hart Lane and is said to be keen to leave in the January window,
Saints are being linked alongside German clubs Borrusia Dortmund and Wolfsburg.
One downside of going for Wimmer though is that one of the few appearances he has made for Spurs was in the EFL Cup when they lost to Liverpool at Anfield.
Although Wimmer is keen to leave it is thought that Mauricio Pochetino is not keen for anyone to leave in January and that could put a spike in Saints plans.

Gardos picked up a knock towards the end of the u23 draw against Everton at the end of November. Puel not mentioning him when discussing injuries to Austin, Targett, McCarthy, Pied makes me think he is either not injured or forgotten about all together.

This morning's Telegraph (usually a more reliable source when it comes to Saints' rumours) carries a story that the Board has no intention of selling Van Dyke but have put a precautionary reserve on his contract of £60m. That seems to me to be a sensible strategy (though personally I would have made it £75m) and suggests that we can relax for a bit over our best defender (indeed our best player), though I think we may be seeing the end of an era in Fonte.

Puel says VVD is staying for another 2 to 3 years in the Echo - may be a mistranslation though - perhaps he said months... Seasons' greetings to all at TUI and all posters. My glass will be half full for 24 hours at least...
