Sunderland After Caulker Tuesday, 22nd Dec 2015 11:00 Sunderland are apparently interested in signing Steven Caulker in the January transfer window.
Sunderland are after Steven Caulker, the central defender has not had much of a chance at Saints snce his arrival on a season long loan, when he arrived it looked a good signing, but at times he has been behind Yoshida in the pecking order, prompting suspicions of problems off the field.
Sunderland seem interested in taking him to the North East, but the deal is complicated in that QPR do not want to take him back to Loftus Road as they cannot afford his wages, so they will be wary of allowing him to return to London and then a deal falling through meaning they are burdened with a Premier League salary.
If any deal is to happen then it needs all three parties to sit down and have the paperwork done and dusted at the same time.
In my opinion Caulker has had a raw deal at Saints and hasn't played the games that his form and experience should perhaps have warranted, when he has played he has not done badly, especially in the early part of the season where in a 0-0 draw at Watford he looked the part, but his sporadc games have not helped him find consistency.
The fact that Yoshida is ahead of him is strange, the Japanese defender should in all reality be behind a player of Caulker's proven ability and the fact that he isn't suggests that his lack of games is more down to issues off the field than on it.

Let's hope they get him. It will help seal their relegation fate

The trouble, I suppose, with never getting a game is that any 'off field problems' are more likely to continue/worsen, 'idle hands' and all that. If Caulker is behind Yoshida in the pecking order then it means there is something wrong and we might as well let him go and bring someone in who Koeman, or his successor, is happy to pick.

What a load of rubbish! His performances haven't warranted more game time. Very poor on the ball and reminds be of Hooiveld when 1 v 1. I hope he can come good but the fact is he hasn't been good enough when given the opportunity.

I imagine after a closer look, Ronald and co have decided he isnt up to scratch. He has hardly looked the part when called upon. At teh moment we are lacking leadership. Fonte seems to have gone quiet and isnt dominating games as he did last season. Too many big players are off form. Need to get our mojo back asap.

How long before Gardos returns? According to RK he was pushing for a start pre-season. I think Caulker was brought in as a stop-gap and that's how he's been used. Whether or not he has problems isn't that important if he puts in a shift. I don't remember Lee Barnard not giving his all.

He's not great and prone to mistakes. Physically looks the part but made too many errors in the few opportunities he's had. Do you think we can tie up Yoshida in the deal too? and Scunderland would be certain for the drop along with Villa.

Caulker's proven ability, as you call it, is to not only have back to back relegations with Cardiff and QPR, but to have an absolute mare against Liverpool !! He was only brought in on loan in case we failed to get VvD and to cover in the Europa, but having done that, he has proven to RK, the type of player he is and that is SURPLOUS TO REQUIREMENTS !! He and Yoshi are as bad as each other and oh how I would have loved for us to have signed both VvD and Toby in the summer !!

Oh and Gardos will be back sometime in January and he will queue jump straight in front of Caulker and Yoshi !!

'Make it so', Can't believe it was only a year or so back that we were rumoured to be after him for quite big bucks before he joined Cardiff? lucky escape.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Swansea City Polls |
