Lee Holmes Goes Up To Oxford
Lee Holmes Goes Up To Oxford

Lee Holmes has had limited opportunities at Saints this season, which is a pity as when he has played he has made a decent contribution.

Lee Holmes is probably one of the unluckiest players at Saints, over the past few seasons he has picked up many frustrating injuries and even when he has been fit he has usually found that the manager doesnt seem to rate him, however you have never heard a word of complaint, he has just got on with the job when he has been called upon.

This season has been one of frustration for Holmes, firstly Steve De Ridder has been in front of him for most of the time and to be blunt Holmes might not have the pace of De Ridder, but he has a lot more passing and crossing ability and an end product, so from this point of view he must feel hard done by, in recent weeks he has perhaps edged ahead of De Ridder, coming off the bench at Forest and looking good in the win, but he has then seen his progress blocked by the arrival of Falque, a player who clearly has little to offer compared to Holmes and then the return to fitness of Richard Chaplow and the arrival of two forwards allowing Guly to return to the right side of midfield now means his first team chances even off the bench are virtually nil.

So he has now gone to Oxford United on loan for a month in order to keep up his fitness levels and actually get in a few games in the process, good luck to him, he has usually been in the wrong place at the wrong time during his stay at St Mary's but he has never given less than 100%

Don't forget Puncheon is above him in the pecking order too! I think that this means that we have seen the last of Holmes in a Saints shirt.

Decent bloke, good pro. If he helps Oxford gain promotion and a deal could be struck to keep him there, everyone would be happy.

I wish him well.
