A tale of two seasons
at 12:25 23 Feb 2025

At the start of last season, we were in a pretty ugly mess following relegation, no togetherness or optimism amongst team or fans.
RM came in and seemed to heal the wounds - results were better than most of us could have expected, don't forget the record breaking unbeaten run, and though many complained about the stye of play, at least we had an identity and it was something the players seemed to buy in to.
The big problem was that we got promoted when we simply weren't anywhere near good enough to compete in the PL.
This was made worse by some terrible recruitment, by RM being unable or stubbornly refusing to change his views about how the team should be set up and played as an expediency.
SR were too patient, or perhaps lacked the gumption to address the issues with RM and by the time he was removed, we were deep in crisis. Unfortunately when we thought things could have got worse, they have - Juric has presided over a further deterioration and what was once a team with at least some semblance of shape and purpose is now an embarrassing, formless rabble.
It is not too late for next season to written off, but it will need swift, positive and improved decision making and selection from whoever calls the shots at the top.

Was it wrong to dispIt seems that fans generally want tense with RM this season?

It seems that fans generally want their club to change managers as soon as their team has a sustained poor run.

All too often the players escape the blame - though if the manager has been instrumental in their recruitment, then sure - the manager should take the blame.

Also, we fans rarely agree with the first choice teams selected by the manager (we always know best, of course).

In our case, I think it is generally agreed that, for several years have had a squad of players that are simply not good enough to reach the standards of the division being played.

This is down to poor recruitment, misplaced ambitions about buying young unproven talent who will prosper and become a profitable asset - and importantly, a lack of confidence and opportunity for home grown youngsters coming through the ranks.

Unfortunately this has been exacerbated in our case, with selection and recruitment of inadequate managers (with the possible - repeat possible exclusion of RM).
To me, the problems are entirely top down; we have been on a downward spiral ever since they took and I cannot hope for any light at the end of the tunnel until there is real change AT the top.
