Give him a few more games if you must. To become tactically aware, have a plan B, learn how and when to use subs, play players in their natural positions, stop puting out ridiculous lineups and repeating the same mistakes virtually every game. He's a nice guy, apparently. Nice doesn't translate into results. Being paid more than he is worth. Embarassing score lines. On the back of his PL experience he will easily get a job in Austria, Germany, maybe Spain and Saints can employ a manager to get the best from our limited resources. |

Austin will score goals when he is fit and plays. He cost £4m. It was a gamble, and one that the current Saints can well afford. It probably reflects his true worth due to his fitness record. He is handy to have around but not a player to rely on. Pity, nice guy, good player, not his fault, just fact. |

Newcastle's defending last week was comical and Villa's was sad. Saints' shooting, or lack of it, was unimpressive as it has been for some time now. I'm optimistic we get for more points this season but I'm not rushing to the bookies.
Putting it all in perspective we have done OK this year, much better than not being in the top league, and better than many years of continuous relegation fights which I use to 'enjoy' until 2005 |
