Jack Stephens Deserves Saints Fans Respect At This Time
at 09:32:56

I saw Jack's first game for Saints reserves when he arrived at the club. Let's just say it wasn't an outstanding performance, in my opinion.
In my eyes he has been a liability, but I'm not a football manager and plenty of them have seen things in Jack that I haven't. They may know more about football than me. Being positive, there's no doubting his whole-hearted approach and at times he appears calm on the ball. After games like the Bournemouth one, you can understand why a manager would rather have a fighter in the team than, lets say, a more technically gifted one... its a balance. Ideally you'd have a team of brilliantly gifted players who give everything in every game, but that's for very high spending owners only. Russ is trying to play Pep football with Championship players - he's trying to adapt, but its not easy is it?! I wish Jack well, I admire his spirit, and hope he proves people wrong

Graham Potter Lined Up For Southampton Job
at 10:39:27

"could be set to make a Premier League return if Martin, 38, does not improve the Saints’ results" was the report I read... its not rocket science to speculate that a manager could be sacked if they get bad results - just throw a few out of work or promising managers into the ring - good for a few clicks

An excellent summary of where we are. I totally agree that our chances of automatic promotion, already on a knife edge, might well come down to the bizarre tactic of trying to play Jack Stephens at all costs. I'm glad someone else has to make these tough decisions, and someone, if I'm honest, knows a bit more about football management than most of us.

Spot on there. Jack Stephens oozes competitive spirit and I'm sure he's a top bloke, but I expect the data will show an uncomfortable correlation with him and a leaky defence. Good to get the win but another nail biter.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the Jack Stephens comment. He's a great guy and full of enthusiasm, but also a huge liability and an error about to happen... and that uncertainty can spread.

Newcastle Hovering In January In Move For Southampton Attacker

Just out of interest, when you make a headline like that, why don't you just write 'Alcaraz' instead of 'Southampton Attacker'? is it something to do with clicks and advertising?

Southampton At Middlesbrough The Verdict
at 09:38:40

Well, as you say, for most of the first half it was all good. But - the team seem to have a collective self doubt / inferiority complex which they do their best to hide but which comes out as soon as the opposition scores. It comes from losing so many games, sometimes heavily. Difficult to turn around, and you have to feel for the manager but as us old uns know you have to start at the back and build from a solid defence (remember those days?). If you don't concede you don't lose, and gradually confidence builds. No short-term fix, unfortunately, and we're in for a few more disappointments before we go upwards again. Lets hope things click soon.

Well I agree with you Nick. We've finally got a decent pair of CBs but you can't see that chaos happening with a Coady or a Mee at the back

Saints Said To Have Agreed Terms For Striker
at 12:05:53

Another 'full of promise' signing that might turn out to be inspired. Let's be honest, a Chris Woods or Danny Ings is what we needed - but it might not be easy to attract recognised strikers to a team bottom of the Prem League. Let's hope there is another deal going through under the radar that will surprise and delight us all - but don't hold your breath :(

Sensible signing- a round peg for a round hole. I imagine the owners of Saints FC are already aware of the need for a striker.

Striker Said To Be Close To Southampton Transfer
at 10:50:05

I think the current owners know what's needed. Jackson would fit the template of young promising players with plenty of potential - like Lavia and Alcaraz. But they've also gone for proven quality with Orsic and I'd like to think there's another proven goalscorer coming in before the end of January - we'll see. I'd be happy to see Danny Ings back as well, he'd be a good mentor for some of the younger ones

Jack Stephens Linked With Move To Watford
at 13:19:43

From the moment I first saw Jack I thought he wasn't up to the job, although I expect football managers are better judges of these things. He always seems to give 100% however, which is all you can ask for as a fan, and anyway he's achieved so much more in the game than most of us fans will ever know - good luck to him
