From football finance guru Kieran Maguire's Twitter -- sorry, 'X' -- account. Yes, it seems Robbie really did spend a QUARTER of the entire League Two paid transfer outlay for the season 2021-22. I guess this is why Big Jim is a Head Coach.

One other stat stands out: we were pretty much bang average for income among L2 clubs -- £5.1m brought in versus the £5.2m average for the division. Room for improvement for sure, but not the basket case we sometimes fear we are -- in my opinion anyway.

Interesting article from BBC looking at long-term patterns of promotion/relegation from the bottom tier of the league; looks like York would set a precedent if they go down.
Shame about the unnecessary courting of opinions of 'high profile' Luton chairman mind, a club few people would welcome back to the League.

Remarkably honest and outspoken appraisal by Dale manager John Coleman on BBC Radio Five Live. 'The attitude of some of the players around the place these past six weeks has just not been right. The fans pay hard money, the least they deserve is team pulling together'.
Asked if he had regrets, he said 'not yet', 'can't think like that' and 'time will tell'. He still feels Dale are better placed than Accy were to fulfil his ambitions, even if the BBC interviewers seemed, shall we say, somewhat sceptical about that... |

...seeing Dagenham second bottom of League Two, just a point above relegation zone. Perhaps some will suggest that's unnecessarily alarming way of looking at our current plight, but I'd argue that looking at the Conference itself, you'll find a coterie of ex-league clubs making up the numbers. I fear of we go down, we could really struggle, and we risk being sucked into a battle to the death for our league status -- the one thing RAFC cherishes above all else (rightly obviously).
I don't want to see Eyre sacked, becuase I don't think managers in English football are generally given enough time to develop squads. But I am really struggling to see how he is going to turn the situation round. All alternative ideas gratefully received! |

...get Eyre and Bunn into his office first thing tomorrow morning, and read them the riot act. He has a right to know exactly how the management team can justify such a lacklustre performance in a game that was so important to us financially. We were 1-0 up at half-time, but at no point did any of us feel sure we'd win the game. At 2-1 down, we more or less gave up.
I hope at the very least that the chairman will be asking Steve to reiterate his plan to ensure we are more robust defensively, and I also hope there are some searching questions asked about his ability to sign players from within the lower divisions. I am willing to give Matt Barnes Homer the benefit of the doubt as an individual for a few games, but on tonight's evidence he was woeful and, I reckon, pretty overweight. There are other examples, as we know.
The chairman might also like to ask Steve about the Gary Jones quandary. We are more dependent on Jonah now (in my opinion) than at any time since 1999, and yet the man is well into his 30s, and cannot be expected to deliver the kind of performances we have seen so far this season (and last) without significant support from other players around him. If Jones gets crocked, do we still have a midfield? Answers on a postcard.
Football is supposed to be a squad game, but do we really have a squad? We have a first XI that looks both nervous and knackered, and fringe players we haven't even seen -- like Twaddle and Marshall, who is available to both us and Droylsden, if I understand correctly.
Lastly, I am seriosuly worried about the general lack of enthusiasm and poor body language of many of the players, especially at half time and during warm up. Maybe it was something I didn't look at during the previous regime, but it stands out to me now and it worries me. In addition we have a pretty woeful disciplinary record. Ashley Grimes is a prime culprit in my view -- too often remonstrating when he doesn't get a pass, even in gmaes we're winning, eg Bury. But generally we are collecting too many bookings. Why?
Sorry if these issues have been raised on other threads, I'm just hoping that, rather than letting any clamour for the manager's head to take root, the Chairman reminds Mr Eyre of his responsibilities and asks for concrete plans indicating where an improvemnt is to come from.
We missed a critical opportunity to put the club in a more financially stable position tonight, despite having the best possible springboard. The Chairman must intervene. |

BBC Radio Five Live is doing a documentary tonight on the absence of black managers in the football league/Premier League. It mentioned that the first black manager in the Football League was Tony Collins at Dale in the 1960s -- despite having watched Dale since 1989, I for one did not know that. He was manager for seven years too, apparently. |

Just a note to anyone travelling by public transport to Dagenham on Saturday. There is no direct Tube service between Central London and Dagenham East on Saturday because of engineering works; Transport for London appears to recommend taking the c2c rail service from Liverpool Street station to Upminster and changing there to get the Tube back to Dagenham East (the far eastern section of the District Line is still open).
Best thing to do would be to check your route on the TfL journey planner: http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en
...either way, allow extra time for the trip! |
